Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Had a nice break from the cold weather and spent a week in Cancun. Had a half a day planned with the wife to get out for some sailfish and other big biters but mother nature had other plans for us. We had been cruising out for about a half hour when the swells kept getting bigger and bigger. When the hang time of the boat kept getting longer with each swell, El Capitan suggested we change the game plan just a tad since it would have been another hour to get to our destination. There were a few other boats in our group in the 34-41ft range that were reporting swells of 15-20ft. Thankfully it was just us two on the smaller boat as the others had 6-8 on and half were hung-over. Heave-ho!

With the exception of the ballyhoo and wire leaders, it was just like salmon fishing. Downriggers, squids, and skirts. Caught six barracuda. Nice day overall. Now back to the heavy layers and so-so fishing.

Jesse,
That looks like a blast man! Too bad you couldn't get to the sailfish waters. Barracuda is a nice change of pace though.

I was in the East Cape back in November. Wish I was there now. Great spot to fish and the Sea of Cortez is usually a lot kinder then the ocean. Welcome back to reality.
