Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

i am sick and tired of the indians getting to do whatever pretty much whenever. want to fix our salmon populations stop them netting they have little to no rules on it. they get first crack at crab and put a damper on the salmon population. the person who get hurt more and more every year is sport fisherman. outlaw trebble hooks but dont stop them neting. i have no problem if they want to let them fish but with out the white mans technolege. the more salmon they get the more regulations we get. im sorry itsjust its enough already. we dont have the populations and returns to support massive netting like there doing alaska has enough salmon to do it to keep the numbers in check washington dosent.

You know what makes me mad? Handycap people getting to park closer to stores than me! What, do I have to cut a leg off to get a good parking spot?

The rules are the rules because treaties where signed decades ago. The state government is holding up it's end of the treaty by allowing the harvest of a resource.

no thats fine but why are we allowing them to use new gear they should still be using canoes and spears if thats the case. there wipping out our fish populations on a stupid treaty. they do what they want and it pisses me off. who ends up getting tougher regulations we do normal everyday guides not loaded indian reservations.

They are also the ones that are doing the most for the preservation of the spawning grounds. My best friend is the Preservation manager for the Quinault Indian Nation. His job is to ensure that spawning grounds are well taken care of. They are managing the rivers at a much more detailed level than the state. he is checking colverts and debree in the rivers EVERY DAY!!! Plus, they have quotas of how many fish they can take just like everyone else. And, they are not going to take more than they need because they know that it will hurt the future of the resource. They are not stupid.

If you want to be mad at someone for declines in fish population, be mad at the commercial guys off shore that are netting thousands of fish and be mad at all the power companies for building dams in the first half the the 1900's for screwing up spawning grounds. Don't be mad at the Indian's for the hand full of fish that they take. They are required to use punch cards and such just like us. And, don't think they get special treatment from the tribal police. My friend is white and is not going to let anything just slide by.

Plus, I don't think you have much to worry about. Read this. http://wdfw.wa.gov/do/newreal/release.php?id=apr0809b

heres the kicker a guy i know is related to some indians he was telling me last year how many fish the indian guys were getting he said his relatives were averaging about 100 - 150 fish a day might not sound big but thats one gill netter out of all of them and thats chinook i asked this guy how many hatcherys they get he said little to none there about 95 percent wilds. these are native fish full of eggs about to head into the river. im not condoning any gill netting in washington i say if you want to gillnet go to alaska at least till are population makes a turn around. we get tighter regulations every year and its tuff. im not aginst gill netting because its a good management toolbut when the population is becoming depleted why keep taking fish. why are we limited to only take hatchery fish when they can take natives. these are the things that i feel need fixing. and just to let you know most indians lie on there catch numbers alot of them sell there fish at the docks or too family friends. but its not just them your right but once a fish has made it all the way up to the river then these fish are ready to spawn and are chinook numbers are down how dose it make sense to open it.

The one issue with the non-treaty indian tribes that should be fixed is this: All non treaty indian tribes are allowed X amount of fish per year, but... They must split their catch with the state. One way of reducing the number of fish removed from those rivers would be to get the states hand out of it. I don't know exact numbers, but the state is making money off of the Non-treaty tribes and hurting the fisheries. But, getting this state's government's hand out of any cookie jar is about impossible. Money hungry bastards....

I've got a great idea Eric Delay...stop posting racist jokes on this public site, I am sure the people who own this site don't appreciate having to babysit.

Chad Huffman...if you are concerned with Native American rights, I think you should join some of the Conservation based organizations in this state to get a little more info, like CCA or NSIA

you know what why. here is the truth the other day i was out salmon fishing in puget sound. a indian gillnetter ran across over to where we were anchored set his nets in front of us then his budy laid his net behind us this is within100 yards. im sorry if you think this is racist but oh well this is the everyday run in. but its all good by the way take lots of pictures when you do catch fish andrew because if they keep netting and crabbing like they are it might now always be around but its us stupid racist.
