So I have been using my Daiwa Viento low profile reel in the Salt for Humpys and I am wondering what I should be doing post trip or post season to prevent corrosion. I put this up in the Bass group and I got a response that did nothing but tell me I was stupid and using a bass reel for something other than bass so I decided to save myself the torture. I know there are reels for salmon and there are reels for bass, but my salmon reels dont fit on the 6'6'' rod I'm using for casting to Humpys.

THANKS
PJ

honestlyiuse basicly the same set up i dont havethe money to buy tons of diffrent rods. i use a abu garcia black max low profile reel it works well teamed with my abu garcia 8'6''rod. the main thing when use my bass rod in saltwater is after every trip to spray i off and i also spray it down with wd 40. another rod brobly my favorite for these humpys is a 6'ugly stick in medium action and a shakespear reel its a cheap set up but is so much fun with these humpys i run 12# test izor line. its a killer set up yeah you have to play them alot more but its sure fun.

Yea Chad I wouldn't be doing it if I was using a big salmon rod it would be no fun. On my Rapala medium bass rod with that Daiwa reel I have tons of fun and can cast for miles. I have my dad set up with a G loomis 8'6'' light action steelhead rod with a shimano spinning reel and he faught a Humpy for 5 minutes the other day. It was peeling line and he had a blast and we got him in the net! I have been spraying my reel off and using reel magic so I feel like it will be okay. Thanks for the reply it's good to know someone else is doing the same thing as me.
