Anyone out there switched back over to the big bulky life vests? I'm hearing more and more about Auto inflate life vests that are not doing there job.

Every time I put mine on, I'm wondering...is thing going to work?

I would say that most people that wear them do not change the rice pill rings that are suppose to be changed out at least once every two years at the most and is recommended once every year. I wear old ones when weather is nasty so they don't inflate prematurely. I'm curious how many of the incidents wearing the inflatable pfd's did not properly inflate actually were defective due to the pill hardening and not working properly. Just my 2 cents.

I have been in the water twice in the last ten years, mine worked very well both times. you have to take good care of the vest, clean it and change to pill every year. You take care of your vest it will take care of you!

I had one prematurely inflate while fishing on a hot sunny day 5 years ago. It scared the piss out of me!

Good thing it was a hot day and your shorts dried out.

I only use an auto inflating vest. That be said I stick to the most tested and most trusted name in survival. Mustang Survival. I use the HIT vest only. I think they have been thoroughly tested and used by our military and first responders across the country with great results. I have yet to hear of a Mustang Survival HIT vest failing to work. Their is a reason they cost twice as much as a Cabelas or Bass Pro brand. The guy on another website who got recently ejected and claimed his vest didn't work was not wearing a Mustang Survival.
