Just touched down in Seattle after 10 days on the road traveling for business. Flew out last Monday, had meetings with Cabela's Corporate in Sidney, Nebraska last Tuesday and Wednesday, and have been working the State of Michigan for the past week. My 7 year old daughter, Kylie, kept telling me before I left on this trip how excited she was about the Father's Day present she was making me. Since I was going to be out of State during Father's Day, she was going to surprise me upon my return. However, I got a little preview today via text message.
Apparently she bought a book recently on making fishing lures to give her some ideas. My wife helped her a little with the skill saw - cutting the wood, but she sanded it all by herself, tested the action in the bathtub to get it running how she wanted, painted it, glued the eyes on, installed the hook hangers, made the spinner wire, etc. I may have to change out the makeshift wire split rings to real split rings, but she had the right idea. :) She just couldn't figure out how to use the split ring pliers that she's seen me use. Owner Hyperwires can be a chore for an adult!
I wanted to share this picture and story because I thought it was pretty darn cute. She let me know that it's supposed to be a "rainbow trout chasing a dragonfly". Aren't kids the best?

Very nice. Kids are awesome! They do grow up fast though. My daughter graduated Saturday from UW - seems like yesterday she was five!
She did a great job, even the colors are perfect, you have a winner there Tag.
Great stuff Tag!!
My son made me a good luck charm fishing bracelet when he was 4, I still have it attached to the steering wheel of my boat today and will be going onto the new boat.
Super cool man. Now get her to tie those jigs......lol
SWEET!
Thanks for sharing the story with us and the passion for fishing with your daughter.
