Hey guys just wondering how these rods are in comparison to the old GLX line. I was looking for a new jig rod and there are tons of praises on this site on the older GLX jig rods. Any feedback on the new rods would be awesome thanks Eric

If you are not sold on Loomis look into the dobyns 784 ML Jig rod. I use it and i believe Doucet uses it and also loves it.

So many Rods, So many Price's. I've had great luck with Bass Pro rods, even though there $99.99 rods, I can still tell hard bottom from gravel, silt and so on. person prefrence I suppose. I've always heard great things about loomis and have enjoyed my grandfathers steelhead spinning loomis but none the less, there decent. just a prefence.

I fished the old 894 GLX for the last 2 years until l snapped the tip off last summer. Sent it back and got the new style. The new rod is lighter, has better balance and i cant tell any difference in sensitivity.

One of these days I'd like one, just havnt got there yet....

The new GLX rods are different, and I think if you are expecting the staple rod models to feel the same in the new setup you are likely going to be disappointed.  Some may feel better and fish better some may be worse.  I don't think anyone has enough time with them to say yet.  There are some new models in the GLX lineup that I think look really interesting and would like to get, but I am trying to get new tires for my Jeep and that is the priority right now.

Taking the recoil guides off and splitting the grip are 2 reasons I don't like the "new" line up, the blank seems to be the same great feel and action compared to previous GLX as far as I can tell.

If you elect to go with a Dobyns, I will make you a deal on a brand new "with tags" Champion Extreme DX795.

The rods are great, the new reel seats are very comfortable on the baitcasters, the blanks with the same number and lineup are pretty much identical. Love the new blanks they have added to the lineup, 894BCR, 902BSR, 853BSR. I still prefer the recoil guides on my bait casting rods, but do prefer the guides on the new spinning rods. I don't mind the pony grips at all, I do not like traditional split grips, but the pony grips loomis uses are very functional and comfy. The rods balance are what you can expect from a loomis. Honestly Loomis has me wanting to trade some of my older GLX rods in for the newer versions!

Austin is right on the Dobyns 784 Mike Long Jig Rod. I really like this rod for jig fishing, but it's also versatile enough to fish texas rigs of varying size and 6" senkos.

Otherwise I'm pretty much GLX across the board with a couple of NRX rods as well. I haven't run any of the new model stuff so I can't speak to those, but from what I agree with Ron that I really like the recoil guides on my baitcaster - not so much on the spinning rods though.

Right on guys thanks for the info. I have a Dobyns Champion Extreme 702 spinning rod I love so I bet there Jig rods are killer as well. I think I am going get a new GLX 894C JWR hopefully on sale.

Eric that rod is freaking sweet, I got one, and it is gonna become one of my favorites! It is probably going to be one of my most versatile rods that I have. Perfect for dragging and casting 3/4 oz. football heads and will be a great rod for pitching Texas rigs, and roll casting and skipping jigs! Have fun!

Eric,

I just picked up a GLX 894 FPR.  Its a beautiful green rod, and when paired with my curado, her name shall forever be known as "zelda".    There is only one item on this earth that feels more natural in the palm of my hand....

that is the remote for the direct tv...

I haven't fished the rod, so I can't really talk about the stuff you probably are more interested in hearing about....but so far so good.
