Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Since my pond (Merwin) is dry to the tune of 30 feet, I decided to try Mayfield. The weather was absolutly beautiful. I even spent a couple of hours in a T shirt! The water level has been and was this day very normal height. The water temp was 45 in the morning and 48 by evening. No new weeds visible yet but there are still areas where the old dead weeds are still standing. No wind today.

I decided to hit 3 places today only just to wait them out. I don't know a lot about this lake but I know the three places all had a lot of fish last year. Anyway I would fish the first place very thouroughly and then move on to the next place and fish it hard and so on. I rotated like this all day. Finally towards evening I had two followers. The first one was one of if not the biggest fish I have ever seen. He followed right to the boat behind a small swimbait with a bunch of weeds on it! I did my figure 8 and a good one but I guess the weeds were a turn off and he swam back home. The second fish followed a top water to the boat.but spooked on the "8". (Todd I really, really hope you are reading this) That was it for the day. Just two early season close encounters.

Has anyone heard if the bass have been cooperating? Of coarse the goal is

Hey Ed..yup i saw this report..and should have gone down there..was gonna but had something preplanned already..good to see/hear that there are a few active fish. And they were moving in below 50 degree water temps..with the relatively mild weather and not much rain i kind of thought that Mayfield might be ready earlier than normal..Topwater..really? Probably prevoked by a fisherman..remote control operated fish dont count Walzer! lol

i had heard that the water(Merwin)that was let out was 1000 cubic ft per second..thats a load of water coming out of those gates..and tons of electricity produced from that water release..
