Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Was there any doubt that the poachers would be back? There were two boats working Merwin today and maybe more I didnt see. Both boats I did see are new from last year. I dont think Merwin is going to be worth a shit  anymore. I truely believe the lake has been raped severely and with the apparent lack of law enforcement concern on this matter the fishery will die. I talked to the Sheriffs in their boat today and they had no idea poaching was happening last year or now. The fish and game office has not informed them.

Appreciate the info Ed,maybe it's time we all take a field trip to Merwin.

The last I heard I thought the poaching issue was being handled! It seems they think they can get away with it so they are getting all their friends to join in....pretty ballsy to do it when you know a sheriff boat is patrolling the lake.

I like the idea of taking care of this ourselfs. Just need a plan and a way to let these assholes know we dont appreciate them.

Im not sure Mike but I think they may have started after the Sherriff went home.

Great picture Ed..Question though. The blue registration tag. Its not the same as a Washington tag. It doesn't look anything like mine, its orange. So are they illegal anyway? A hole in the lower unit would be the best thing..Has either one of the musky clubs pursued this nearly a 1/4 as much as you and the 5 other of us guys fishing down there have? Now I'm going fishing..see yahs. Gonna get some Tapps musky yah yahs out of my system.

ED also go on f.b and post that picture on the NWSportsmans page. Like I said they hate poachers just as much as the rest of us. Andy will do what he can to help the fishery for sure. Now I'm going fishing!

Mr Todd Reis,

You should know that CMA has been instumental in trying to stop the poaching problems. Including the gill cutting on Tapps, bowfishing at Mayfield and spearfishing at Merwin.

The reward offered by CMA via our website speaks for itself.

Many, many emails and phone calls have been sent over the course of the last 5 - 6 yrs to the WDFW over these issues by CMA. It is not a musky club's fault this problem continues.

Please refrain from using this forum for chastising the musky clubs for something they have nothing to do with. Vent your frustration with WDFW Enforcement.

Thank You.

Mr. Wells,

I never blamed either club. I am just amazed at the depth of this issue continuing. I do disagree with what Ed said, the "lack of concern from law enforcement" is not true. The WDFW is very concerned. There is an on going investigation. All we can do is provide information with boat numbers, photos or video. And Ed has restarted the topic with new information. Great job Ed!

The spear gunning is a SERIOUS problem at Merwin !

You know as well as do all my friends I have made throughout the musky fishing community that I have a deep passion for the sport. I am truly grateful to the state for providing me with the fishing opportunity that is musky fishing. I love my family and then I love musky fishing next.

Please stop scolding a fellow fisherman's opinion. Just because you don't like my opinion does not mean my opinion is wrong.

No one made you judge and jury in this open forum.

Have a great weekend!

Todd Reis

Go  to you tube and punch in 'spear gunning tiger muskies' and look at what comes up. WAAAAy back 2 years ago when we 1st saw the spear gunners at Merwin they were in a white boat with red trim under the gunnel. The boat looks really familiar. And the 2 dudes were big dudes with blonde hair. Just check it out. Plus at the end the location is unknown. Could be in Utah, Colorado or New Mexico? ? Brandon Carter is the guy who produced the video..just reminding everyone that it is illegal to spear gun in freshwater here in Washington. And just keeping this thread up near the top to raise awareness. And to report these goons if you see them here..
