Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Thank you everyone who showed up to support this event, once again the folks at Pure Fishing did not disappoint with some great product giveaways for each boat that attended along with rods and reels for the raffle.

The weather held up for the tournament pretty well, with a chilly morning and a slight wind most of the day, but in general, the sun was shining and it was a great day to be on the water. The fishing was pretty tough for most teams with just 5 teams out of 20 weighing limits and a little less than half the teams weighing fish at all. Here's how the top 5 shook out:

  1. Mark Mrzena / Shawn McDaniels: 18.88lbs - caught their fish on a berkley powerbait twitchtail minnow and berkley havoc pitboss jr in green pumpkin.
  2. Tony LoFranco / Wes Wezenberg: 17.67lbs - caught their fish all on the Berkley Powerbait Minnow (Smelt Color) and Powerbait Twitchtail minnow
  3. Eric McCarthy/Travis Bogart: 13.38lbs - Berkley Powerbait Flatback Shad Swimbait in Rainbow Color
  4. Ron Hobbs Jr/Zach ChandlerL 11.98lbs - Berkley Gulp Jumbo Leech and Berkley Gulp Goby
  5. Connor Olsen/Jeff Blume: 9.88lbs - Berkley Powerbait Lizard in Watermelon

Big Fish 4.88lbs: Mark Mrzena and Shawn Mcdaniels on a Berkley Havoc PitBoss Jr in Green Pumpkin

I was even able to sneak out for a couple hours and tie into these two beauties - one on the Berkley Havoc Deuce with a hula skirt and the other on a Berkley Havoc Backslide. The big one had a 6" sculpin hanging out of it's mouth:

We are looking forward to doing this tournament again next year and hope that with a little better planning and advanced notice we can grow the participation and hopefully show Berkley that it is worth investing in our market up here.

On that same note, I am curious to know why those of you that did not show up to the tournament did not come? Was it the late notice, weather, costs, etc...? I really am looking for some feedback to do whatever we can to grow this.

Thanks for putting this on Jordan!

Sorry I couldnt be there Jordan...I has helping my dad at his lake roosevelt cabin...I appreciate you putting all the time and effort into things like this for the bass fishing community!  Ill be there next year!

I was working.  But I'm glad everyone had fun!

For me it was 95% notice and perhaps 5% location. I think it's a great idea and enjoy your mixing things up a bit. If possible I'll be attending next year now that it is on the radar. 20 teams is pretty darn good considering how quickly you put it together!
Yeah definitely my bad on the notice. We were working out some details on top of selling my house. Next year we will have it on the schedule far ahead if time. I appreciate the input so far. Keep it coming. I want berkley to see its with their time, money and effort up here in the northwest.

Jordan this tournament was great glad your planning on it next year. I liked the format. My boat was on a diet with all the non Berkley tackle at home. Congratulations to Mark and Shawn just shy of 19lbs with a 4.88 Lake WA freak in the box nice work fellas.

Economic reasons.
Where all the pics?

I would normally attend this sort of thing, but work kept me from participating...look forward to next years event.  Good on you Jordan for organizing this type of tourney.

I Almost fell out of my Chair from laughing so hard at myself  . I was just a "little" cold for the record ...LMAO !!

Sounds like you were sitting to pee Dez!
