How are they going to enforce the non barbed hooked rule?

No reply yet, guessing you are posting it but not enforcing it in any other way? Don't get a ticket don't get disqualified?
My point is as a tournament there is no way of enforcing that rule, one of those rules keeping the honest, honest.

Same rule is on the Columbia... not enforced for bass fishermen, just ask a game warden over there.

We will put those as the lake rules, but it is up to the game warden to enforce that not us. We will not be checking.

I'm confused... so will the tournament director make it clear to all the anglers that single hook and barbless must be adhered to? I'm thinking about coming out to fish.

My 2 cents... even though the rule sucks it should be adhered to in a tournament. fair and balanced is the only way to roll. difficult to enforce but angler's should hold themselves accountable. for example if a dude has 6 fish in the livewell he should DQ himself; this is no different.

I usually don't chime in on posts, but being a member of Puyallup and I will be fishing this event, I don't support the clubs posted position about not enforcing lake rules.  The club as the conducting entity of the event has a legal duty and obligation to enforce these rules.  It should be made clear to all anglers that the use of barbed hooks is a violation of the rules and enforceable.  I am not in favor of barbless hooks but as long as it is equal for all competitors than it is what it is.  If you not willing to compete under these provisions than don't fish.  But the rule needs to be enforced.  My opinion is that any rod on the boat deck that is ready to fish, must meet the barbless hook definition(s).  If a protest is filed for violation of this or any other rule violation they need to be enforced.  Any other position by the organization conducting the event encourages cheating.  If the club is not willing to take on this responsibility than they shouldn't be running the event.

Better get it figured out sooner than later. So we know whether or not to enter.

That would include knowing whether or not a protest would lead to a DQ. Most would agree that pinching the barb would adhere to the rule - but who is going to judge if you did or did not pinch it far enough?

There is another way to look at it, if you don't like the Non-Enforcement.....don't fish it.

I agree with what you are saying Bob. We don't expect anglers to empty their boat of all barbed and treble hooks. That would be a royal pain in the butt. That being said, it is up to the individual to comply with the rules. All protest will be up to the tournament director to investigate and make decisions. It states in our rules that all state and local laws must be adhered to. An example of a DQ would be that you are cited for a boating or fish and game violation. That would likely lead to your DQ. Given the prior history with fish and game and tournaments they will like be at the lake on tournament day. It is a difficult rule for us to enforce and sportsmanship comes into play. Obviously when tournament morning arrives enforcement could be strict during boat inspection. WDFW is aware of our permit and I am not sure how they interpret the rules. If you possess prohibited tackle on the lake is that a violation or it ok if it is not being used?
