St. John's River MONSTER - Rodman Resv. 12-14-14

Took a guided trip while in town visiting my daughter and new son-in-law. SOOO MUCH FUN! I don't think I will ever find fishing agian at this level. We caught something like 43 bass in 6 hours, none under 2 lbs, most 4 to 9 lb range. There are soo many fish at Capt. Sean's disposal that we spent half of the day in one spot fishing 20ft of shore line. After we caught over 20 fish, it wasn't even slowing down. We just moved on to find bigger fish. Probably lost 50% of the fish that bit due to various reasons (including bad hooksets). No need to bring anything. Capt Sean supplies all gear needed. Thanks to Sean Rush at Florida Trophy Bass. O man.  Me and my son in law had sore arms from the 100+ X 100% Hooksets.  The rods we used were 8ft Shimano 2X HD models (Musky Rods)

Dan, It was 60-65 deg.  When we launched, It was 35 deg, pitch black and foggy with 20ft of vivibility.  Had to navigate by Sonar trails and spot light with stumps every 20 feet.  Fog lifted a bit after 2 hours and eventually burned off to 65 deg by afternoon.  Most fish had a Shiner sticking out of his fat gut when caught.

Thanks Tag.  I think most use the Bobber method, but our guide was into "advanced techniques", which was really cool.  I hooked into one that I fed line to 20 feet deep under a mat and another 20 feet to the left.  It was soo crazy.  With that much line (25lb big game mono), you have to use the biggest hookset in the world.  But the hooks get buried, so it's really hard to lose em afterward.

Very nice fish, Russ!  Looks like you all had a blast!  Definitely a unique hookset with shiner fishing, very similar to a Carolina Rig, but it does take practice.  Glad you guys got in some killer action.  Thank you for sharing.
