Tons of Shad Dead in lake Washington!

I went out to lake Washington over by UW. There were tons of shad dead Floating on the top of the water. There had to be a couple thousand. After fishing for a couple hours.. We headed to kenmore log boom and noticed some shad there to. What the Hell is going on ?
