My Experimental Rod Holder for My Solo (Steelhead) Outings

I made a very simple contraption that will hopefully assist me when I hook into my first steelhead. Given the rule, if I understand it correctly, that they must be kept in the water unless they are being retained when legal, I have often wondered how I could take a photo of the fish, while still holding the rod in one hand (I am not going to do the, “hold it by the teeth method,” no way), keeping it in the water, AND trying to hold a camera. The simplest way would be to have a buddy around to… Continue

Optimax or HPDI Yama mama

I am looking at 2 boats right now, one has a 2000 optimax and the other a 2001 (i think) HPDI. both have been cared for farily well from what I see, just don't know any good or bad history on the cpmparison of the two.
Any cautions or is there a clear winner to go with. I want reliability and fuel economy, well as much as I can expect.
Need advice please of what to look for before I ge real deep into a deal.

Johnny Walker wins Lake Shasta National Guard Western Series stop #1 !

I'll start by saying I got a little wordy!!!!

Momentum is a wonderful attribute to success. Success, I was told by someone once is when preparedness meets opportunity. With all that fluff out of the way, I won the 2010 Lake Shasta FLW Western Series event!

Thought I would post a couple of pictures and share how to build them at a fraction of the cost of buying one. I decided to make two of them so I could paint more than one color at a time. Total cost is under $20 and they normally retail between $50 to $90 for one.

A fluid bed… Continue

Take a Senior Fishing - A Story for the Winter Blues

I woke up the day after Christmas 2009 to a crisp 31° F. It served as a frosty reminder that winter has just begun and I am willing to wager that many anglers have already put away their gear until spring. Except for the most hard core of anglers, these anglers try to find ways to stave off the fishing blues. Some frequent online forums or learn the craft of making lures. Others do it by reliving and remembering the memories of the past season.

It could be a new personal best 7.5 lb.… Continue
