The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

OK, I have had to keep this secret since December, but now that the Classic announcement was made I am allowed to spread the word. Check out Lowrance's new Side Viewing capability. The new HDS units will come with the software already installed, so all you need to add to your regular HDS unit is the Side Viewing transducer.

I'm really looking forward to adding this feature to my networked electronics!

Here is the link to the announcement:

I have a mix of HB and Lowrance right now. I went ahead and got a HB 798SI and then run a Lowrance X-135 Up front. Looking forward to getting to know the HDS units better, then maybe getting one, but the deal I got on the HB I couldn't turn down. I like the HB SI, but like Ron said, the 2d is nowhere near the Lowrance. If I ever run into some more $$$ then I will get an HDS.

I have a hummingbird and it is awesome, the up down view could use alot of work though. The idea of the integration system alone makes it way better to me. If anyone can wait then wait but it doesn't look like your going to be able to get one until after July.

Jeff, no, I have not seen anything but pictures so far, so I cannot give firsthand info. However, since it utilizes existing HDS units it will be great to have all of the networking features available on Lowrance's current units. For instance, see a tree on the Lowrance Side View and punch in the waypoint and it will be saved on all of your networked units at the same time. I also suspect that with the ethernet cable capability, you can see your Side View image on multiple screens on the same network. Sure will be nice to have a single database of GPS coordinates instead of one for Lowrance and one for Hummingbird. I also can't wait to use the Side View in conjunction with the InSight Maps that come on the HDS units. I also understand the Side View has color as well to tell you more about the density of the image you are viewing. This Lowrance system will combine the best of both vertical viewing and side viewing, all on the same network.

Marc

Marc, I know your with Lowrance but have you tried both units against one-another? If so, is their any difference in technology?
The one thing about hummingbirds' side imager that could be improved was the verticle transducer. For such a beautiful image on the side-imager, the verticle transducer is really sloppy on the Hummingbird.

I already have an HDS5 on the boat, used it today. Very nice, and I am excited for the upgrade!

A little bird whispered something to me a while back, so I held off on purchasing the humminbird. Sure glad I waited.
