TRUTHS AND TAILS, FAVORITEST, BESTEST, MONTH. RUFAS RELEASE!!

So here we are in May, water temps ranging fron 53 to near 60 degrees in the "pocket water" areas.  As expected, the crawdad imitating bite is improving steadily as the signal craws move closer to thier spawn.  Smallmouth are responding with abandon to cranks or plastics representing craws on both Banks and Roosevelt.  Fish from 3 to 12 ft. depending on light and wind conditions.  Walleye in the northern basin are either spawn or post spawn.  More "empty" fish being caught in the last few days, some as shallow as 5ft.  Further down lake, south of steamboat, more walleye are still in prespawn than not.  Crappie are beginning to show up in the classic areas, and again, I ask that anglers be selective, releasing the egg laden females and retaining males as these fish need a bit of help to maintain a foothold here on Banks.  Trout on Banks are in the same patterns as the walleye right now, with many fish just completing the spawn.  However, on Roosevelt, anglers are still pounding nice bows, but it take a bit more time to limit.  Reports have Kokanne busting the surface at dawn,  are the koke anglers fishing too deep? Or maybe too late in the day, need someone to test that bite.  Rufas is still producing Triploids, however, new info suggests that 15,000 Trips over 5lbs each have just been released.  I suspect the info is good, so the bite should be red hot!!  More on that as I learn more.

May, my favorite fishing month, so much happening as we procede thru the days.  Soon, smallmouth will be staging for the spawn, just so happens, the craw spawn will be in full stride as the bronze bombers start hitting the shallows!  So, just before the lockdown of spawn begins, craw baits in the shallows, or at the first dropoff near the spawning areas will be GAME ON.  Enjoy the bounty, but please treat the big females laden with eggs with care, they are the future!

AN oh by the way, I will be making a trip to Idaho next week, to fish bass and pike near the Harrison sloughs, if anyone has a bit of info for a first time Idaho angler, I'm open to suggestions.  Info on lure colors, water colors, patterns or areas with a solid history, i would be grateful.  Really would love to get my wife into her first Pike!

Well, all thats left to do now is get out on the water, enjoy ya'all.  Just a few more TRUTHS AND TAILS from Lou at Playland, tight lines.
