The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

OK,OK, So some information isn't worth a ....  The Rufas Woods release does not measure up as advertized, seems to me that an average fish might go 2lbs, an I doubt it was over 2500 fish if that.  Its a shame that solid information is so hard to come by on that fishery, but thats just how it goes.  Walleye fishing on Rufas has slowed from the slamming start back in march, but early post spawn is often tough.  Still, a few nice fish are coming to the net, mostly on jigs, or craw baits.

Lets hit a topic with a bit of better news, Lake Roosevelt is still punping out good numbers of nice rainbow, and a few more kokanne are popping small spinners and flies at or around 30 feet.  Shallower at twilight or on overcast days.  Stay with pinks or reds for the most part on koke's, orange, pinks and greens for the rainbow.  Smallmouth are hammering cranks, jerks, and craw baits on ledges and points.  Some are very shallow early and late.  May have something to do with the rising lake levels.  Shades of blue and silver does'nt hurt on hard baits, stay light and natural on the craws.  Have not had many good reports on walleye as of late.so hard to pass on anything of substance.  I suspect, like on Banks LK. some have spawned in the river systems and some have not yet.  Location on the lake, temp and current flows along with water clarity can be significant inpactors of the spawn, so don't be afraid to try looking at different areas of the lake for prespawn fish.

On Banks lake, temps are still cooler than normal.  Most north end and mid lake walleye have spawned, although I suspect there are still pre spawners far south.  The introduction of 150,000 juvenile rainbow north has made for a tough bite.  Many fish suspended under bait may be tempted with minnow plugs on leadcore or riggers.  Rainbow should be be back on the feed, pulling raps, cultiva's, or bingo bugs should produce.  Stay tighter to the steeper shorelines for best luck.  Smallmouth are slugging it out with cranks, jerks, and craw jigs on most shorelines and road beds.  Sooner or later the males will be locking down spawning sites and will defend them like the last on sale nintendo at christmas  Still need a few more weeks, but it coming!!!  Crappie still out and elusive, some males showing up a bit shallower, but still a bit to cool for the big push, look for warmer pocket waters for some issolated committed spawners.

So thats about it.  Was a bit surprised that no one had any advice on my upcoming pike adventure at harrison sloughs, too bad.  Tight lines ya all, just one more TRUTHS AND TAILS for Lou at Playland
