Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Single point barbless hooks at Lake Sammamish Jan 1st thru April 30th?

Am I reading my regs right? I guess i can't throw a crankbait until May? Maybe I'll fish somewhere else.

Give it 5 years there will be the same regulations on Sammamish and Washington that now have a choke hold on the Columbia River. Anywhere Salmon swim.....

That could be true, and is certainly the way things are heading.

Bureaucrats, tribes, and environmentalists do not pay for WDFW jobs, and instead, drain WDFW funding through lawsuits; anglers and our taxes on the products we use fund these positions, and the defense against these lawsuits.

When you kill your golden goose, sooner or later there is no money to fund your job.  We need some leadership at WDFW to recognize they are on the endangered species list, and they need to start valuing those who are willing (for the time at least) to pay their salaries or else we will close our wallets.

No we won't.....and they DON'T CARE!

I know we agree on many of these issues as we have talked at length about most of them. However, the WDFS would rather appease the Environmentalists and Activists. Through crazy appropriations and grants, they get way more money that way than from the "users" of the resource.

Could be true? The ways things are headed? We are there! Last week the USFWS declared the "White Bluffs Bladderpod Sagebrush" to be an endangered species. For those that don't know the "habitat" is above the Hanford Reach and runs clear down to Ringold. This was based on plant identification criteria developed in 1732. The local farmers used "best available science" which is what the ESA requires, and performed DNA testing which determined with 100% accuracy that this plant is found throughout the Western US. However, the USFWS still listed it as endangered (which it isn't). It cost them nothing to list it, but it will cost the Farmers millions to fight the listing.

Will they use this to limit access to The Reach? Not right now.....but most likely someday, for the Salmon, the Steelhead, or the Bladderpod. The heavy hand of Government will crash down on all of us eventually.

Great post and excellent points as always, Marc.

Willie, it is a misconception that smallmouth forage on Kokanee. They merely chase them on occasion for fun and exercise.
