Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

This is in correspondence to Jordans top 10 lakes. I see alot of lakes on people's lists the at certain times of year you cannot buy a fish.... so I ask this question...
If you were only allowed to fish one lake for the whole calendar year which lake would you choose and why.
One stipulation imagine if you were required to fish it atleast twice a week.....so no saying I would choose this lake because the fishing stinks in the fall but that is ok because I am hunting!

If it's in Washington state, I have to say Lake Washington.  There are other lakes that I catch them better on when fishing is really good but day in and day out Lake Washington is the steadiest 365 days a year.

I would have said Samish but it's even worse than Washington this winter. At least there are enough fish and Washington is large enough you can still find fish to catch despite the usual haunts being hammered. It sure seems that nothing ruins a good lake faster than heavy winter pressure. Not sure if it's a lakewide decline, less fish in popular areas, or more fish that have been hooked and don't want to bite but I think its safe to say highly pressured winter areas don't stay great forever.

If Potholes stayed at spring levels year around I would say that its the most diverse fishery in the state with both large size and numbers of both smallmouth and largemouth.

Well if its in Washington Lake Roosevelt.. bass, walleye and trout, does not really freeze over. Fishing actually has been good out there all winter.

Out of Washington would prob be the Lake Okeechobee or Choke Canyon Texas would be a good bet. I know I did not pick one but how about one each year?

Has to be Lake Washington for me too. I agree the fishing the last couple tournaments has been poor, but the conditions were also less than ideal to say the least. I am sure I am not the only one to have racked out some great days this winter there just fun fishing when conditions were better. The lake also is very diverse, flats, points, canals, channels, rock, wood, contours, ridges, etc... Then factor in the quality of the largemouth that are sometimes overlooked and I think I could stay busy for a while. I've spent alot of time out there and still feel like I know so little of what is actually there. Seems like most people focus on East Channel area and just north of 520 up to Juanita bay, but I am sure tournaments could be won out of the west channel and even up north between Juanita and Kenmore but it is virtually untouched. And then just for good measure, I am positive that there is an offshore bite out there that just has not been discovered yet on schooling fish. I think I could spend a handful of days just on that alone.

Then to top it off if I got bored later in the summer and fall maybe I could try my hand at Sockeye and Coho too.

I think I would pick Lake Washington to bass salmon trout what more could a guy want

+1 for Lake WA

I'm with Steve, the river seems to be more consistent with numbers. Fish can also be caught generally shallow as well. Generally meaning 10 to 20 feet.

Lk Washington for sure .. I have at times called this lake either The "Training Camp" and other days " The Fiery gates of hell" ..The lake can be very humbling on any giving trip for sure and that is what i find to be so appealing about that body of water .

Like JD mentioned aboved , there are large portions of the lake that seems to remain a mystery for many anglers past and present . I know NESSIE lives in there and i want to take a selfie with her one day :)

I would have to say Lake Washington also.  It's local, I have a yearly launch pass, SM and LM, you can open the boat up all you want, year round bites if you know what you're doing and don't mind freezing.  ( I hate winter fishing )

Lake Washington because its a lake I don't really know so it would help push for me to learn more and new ways and just help me out later on. I know I will struggle at first be I will get the hang of it later on.

I'll second Lk Tapps. Close. LM, SM & Musky and more cover/structure w/46 mi of shoreline than any other lake around.

Mine, Tapps.  I'm sure there are lots of Tapps haters out there, but I can find nice SM, 12" crappie, and you can hit a bonus 4ft Musky just by accident.  Also, every year I see someone catch an 8lb largemouth.  This is all assuming that the lake isn't drained, and I don't have to pay $17 per trip to launch...
