Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

So I have not been to Ocean Shores since WBA went there back in 05 and the fishing was pretty damn good. Has anyone fished that lake recently? I had heard some rumor of a kill off and was not sure if there are bass there still, can not find any reports that are not more then a few years old. Any info would help. Just trying to figure out if I am gonna bring a boat or not.

Thanks

Take this for what it's worth:

We had our monthly club meeting and a warm water biologist for region 6 came and sat in to talk bass with us. I asked about the quality of the bass in Duck Lake and he kind of smiled and said "Not any more"! He stated that the locals, basically, wanted a big swimming pool so they planted it, legally, with 4,800 grass carp. Once the grass was, mostly, gone so were the little feeder fish and, eventually, most every bass. He said now, for the most part, there are only little tiny yellow perch in there. He does believe some of the bass will still be in there but nothing even close to how it was.

On top of that, with the grass now gone, he explained, it allowed the nutrients that were settled down on the bottom of the lake to become suspended. In his words, all they have now is a green pond.

So, like I said, take it for what it's worth. I have a friend that has a lot on Duck Lake and he said he still has weeds out in front of his place. I don't think the biologist made this up, though.

sad

Well I guess I can give it a shot.. spending 6 days there and there is no way I am NOT gonna fish.. sooo guess we will see if I can find a fish or 2.

Let us know what it looks like Brian.

well how did the fishing go? i'm curious to know if any bass survived the kill off.

Wellllll we caught a few perch ( Braydon my 16 month old) but honestly the weather was pretty awful. Only fished from a few shore spots for a couple hours. Still looks bassy, but can not confirm any bass are there.

Brian,  Our club MSHBM went there in 2010, and it was after they had killed the vegetation. There was more than just grass carp. They used an herbicide to kill the plants off.  We had 14 boats catch 11 fish, where it used to turn out multiple bags in the 30# range for a day and 1/2 of fishing. Agree with the statement, the property owners just want it for swimming and former Mayor Bunker who lives on the lake made sure it was that.  Ocean shores has an unfortunate reputation of while its rely's heavily on tourism, it is a Highly unfriendly town. Anglers in places like Banks Lake are treated like gold. Ocean shores is the converse.

Sounds pretty crappy!! That's to bad they did it
