Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Starting to look into doing a trip to el salto or pichachos for early 2017.  Never been.  Looking to hear some stories/tips from those who have been before.  What places have you stayed?  Good/bad?  What are some things that I may not be considering?  Just looking to get the best experience possible the first time down.  Thx in advance for any responses.

Things you may not be considering......White people are routinely kidnapped in Mexico.

Hi Zach, I have been to Lake El Salto several times, Lake Baccarac once and Lake Huites (no longer open I believe) once.  I am happy to share my experiences and some information/tips with you.  I don't have time this evening to type out a lot of detail, but please feel free to give me a call on Friday if you have time.

Take care and talk soon....

I wouldn't go down there if you use right handed bait casters. Right handed reels are for lesbians. when was the last time you saw a hispanic lesbian? They are like baby pigeons, and juvenile carp...
Screw that Zach, I just went on the most epic trip to Panama on a floating lodge. 30 species in 5 days of fishing. Light tackle fishing at its finest. Caught everything from Cubera Snapper to giant pacific snook. Fished 18 hours everyday. 10-12 hours off the guides boat plus took out kayaks and fished from my bedroom.

I had a great time at Lake El Salto.  The only downside was on the second day when I was kidnapped by two left handed Mexican lesbians.  But they let me go once I changed reels.

I did El Salto the non-traditional route.  We didn't have any money, so we used up a lot of favors for cheap room/transportion in Mazatlan and booked a day trip with Hono Elizalde (i think that's his name.  Chris at Limit Out used him I think too).  It was 2 nights at the beach, and 1 day fishing.  With airline miles we got out of there for like $700.  Only one day, but it was a great and inexpensive memory.

Hono is easily as good as any of the resort guides, and he's keyed in with the local fishermen.

I strongly suggest to let your guide key you in on hot baits 7 days before you leave.  The more last minute you choose your gear, the closer you get to the hot baits.  The bass spawn like 4 times per year, and are heavily pressured, so you don't want to spend any time trying to figure out what works.

Hope this is helpful!

Wow, now that sounds like a good time! Definitely an option to consider.

Dude that sounds awesome!

Zach,

If what you want is a fishing trip of a life time for Largemouth bass, go to El Salto. It will spoil you, .... all day 3-4lbers tons of 5-6lbers and plenty of 7lbers and above. Catch 50 in an hour if the wind is right.

Contrary to What Jeff says, La Paz Mexico is the worlds best fishing.  Jacques Cousteau called it the Worlds Aquarium. What makes it incredible is the fact that you can fish for every species and not have to be the Pacific. Its the Sea of Cortez ... not he Pacific side. So no dealing with rough water. You can shallow water fish, sight fish, and deep water fish, for every amazing toothy and pissed off creature that swims the sea.

Try sitting in 3 feet of water in a white sand bay and watch the water turn black from Rooster or Jack.  Marlin, Tuna,  you name it, its there.

Contact http://www.tailhunter-international.com/  contact Jonathan or Jilly they are the finest of people and know how to treat their customers.

I recently returned from a great trip this February from down at El Salto and Picachos through Anglers Inn. They have experienced guides along with great food and service and I would recomend this trip.
My friend Michael Whitlow is the NW representative for Anglers Inn and has been going down to El Salto every year for the last 15 years.
Michael is currently at the Bassmasters Classic expo representing Anglers Inn International.

Picachos is about a 5 year old lake full of 2-4 pound Bass with some bigger El Salto transplants in there as well. If you like to flip plastics, there is no end to the flooded trees there for doing so. Plastic creature baits and swimbaits worked very well for us.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of Tilapia nets there and I weighed a 9 lb Bass that got caught up in one and died.

As seen on other posts you can contact Michael at 509-378-2814 for more info and set up an unforgettable trip with a good chance at catching a double digit Bass.
He does an awesome job of putting the trip together for you and making sure you are having a great time.

I will also be putting an El Salto / Picachos bait package kit together. This will include some of the baits that we use there which have been very effective, especially during the pre-spawn / spawning times.
You will be able to purchase them once I get them put together at: threeriverstackle.com
