Any good fiberglass rod is what i would recommend. The action on the rod isnt as fast so it wont rip the treble hooks out of the fishes mouth. I use the skeet reese series lamiglas crankin rod they are pretty hard to find because skeet is no longer affiliated with lamiglas. I know that wright and mgill have a new one gloomis has a nice one quantum has a nice one made for KVD that is reasonably priced. thats my .02
My brother questprotakle.com will hook you up
John,
I am using a G Loomis CBR906C for traps and heaver cranks. So far it has done everything they say it will. It is 7’ 6” one piece, Med. Heavy and will handle the heaver weighted traps as well. It has the power you need for ripping them out of the grass, yet sensitive enough that you can feel a bass suck one in. Also, I use mine for throwing football heads and with the right reel set up you will be able to cast a mile. This year I am going to try throwing some smaller swim baits as well.
100% agree with Gary

I have been checking out the Powell Max Glass Spook-Trap Casting Rod at tackle warehouse...looks sick!

I agree with Gary and Damon. If I am fishing heavy grass, a graphite rod that is more responsive is my first choice. However, for fishing open water or around sparse cover, I truly believe you will hook and land more lipless crankbait fish with a fiberglass rod. I was on the fence about this a couple years ago but I switched to throwing my traps exclusively on a glass rod, with the exception of heavy grass. Due to the parabolic action of a glass rod, I am 100% convinced the fish get the bait a little deeper and have a much harder time shaking or throwing the bait. Also, when a skin hooked fish surges at the boat, you have a much better chance of keeping that fish pinned with a glass rod. The Lamiglas Certified Pro Fiberglass rods are excellent. I haven't used one from another rod manufacturer so I can't offer any other suggestions.

For years, Marc has preached the advantage of glass rods for this application. I must say I was thoroughly impressed when I gave it a try.
John, I have been using the Quantum PT energy Qec705cb for a year and a half and it does a great job with traps, I noticed Bass pro shop had them on sale for $69.00 I haven't had, in my opinion, any rod related loss of fish at all. It has a good bend for launching them out there a mile and has a real nice feel to it. Hope that is some useful info.
I have the Fenwick Elite tech crankin rod and i love it for traps. its super sensitive to there vibration and can feel anythin it hits, it has ton of backbone for good hooksets and it soft enough to not rip the trebles out.
The St. Croix premiere glass rod is another option for around $100. Great rod for traps! It is 7' long but a different rod that is 7'6 wouldnt be a bad choice either as a longer rod will increase your casting distance. Anything that is fiberglass and is over 7' so you can really launch the bait out there should be a fine choice!
I was looking at this Powell rod on tackle warehouse the other day. Along with the description, is a video from Jared Litner. The video is pretty informative and shows the reasoning for the galss rod for the technique. GIve it a look.

Guys, tt hanks for your responses. I've been using this old 61/2 foot All Star rod for years. Caught alot of trap fish on it too. It's a low end graphite rod with a very slow, almost parabolic action. I think that's why it has work so well, but I'd like something at least 7 ft. Still on the fence bebtween graphite and fiberglass. I do use fiberglass for my cranks.
