John,
I am using a G Loomis CBR906C for traps and heaver cranks. So far it has done everything they say it will. It is 7’ 6” one piece, Med. Heavy and will handle the heaver weighted traps as well. It has the power you need for ripping them out of the grass, yet sensitive enough that you can feel a bass suck one in. Also, I use mine for throwing football heads and with the right reel set up you will be able to cast a mile. This year I am going to try throwing some smaller swim baits as well.
Any good fiberglass rod is what i would recommend. The action on the rod isnt as fast so it wont rip the treble hooks out of the fishes mouth. I use the skeet reese series lamiglas crankin rod they are pretty hard to find because skeet is no longer affiliated with lamiglas. I know that wright and mgill have a new one gloomis has a nice one quantum has a nice one made for KVD that is reasonably priced. thats my .02
