Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Curious what the turnouts were for the tournaments this past weekend that split up the tournament fishermen over the State.

Mardon Open was 30 boats.  I hope the schedule next year works out to get a better turnout.  Fundraiser for the habitat project there deserves more support.

We were at Moses to fish recreationally this weekend and there were three club tournaments there.  The Columbia Basin Club guy we talked with said they had 30 boats.  I suspect there were at least 50-60 total tournament boats on Moses over the weekend.  I won't make that mistake again.  I thought the three big tournaments (Lake WA, NW Bass at CDA, Potholes big event) would pull more guys away from these club tournaments, but I was wrong.  Would have been a good weekend to hit Banks with just the Walleye tourney up there.

Wafish had 29boats. I never realized the Mardon Open profits went toward a habitat project. Is this something new? It doesn't say anything about it on the tourny flyer. I never considered fishing that tourny because it sounded to me like the profits went to Mardon resort which I thought was Busch League!

cwfac.....is the organization. go to their site or there is a link on the Mardon site.  They had a big raffle as well.

20% of the proceeds went to fish habitat project (CWFAC) at Potholes for the Mardon Open. Wish we had more but with all the events at the same time thats the way it worked. Working with Meeburgs now for next years event on Potholes, dates are being discussed.

As TBF president trying to get all event coordinators to work together so this does not happen in the future.

41Lbs won it I believe. We were sitting in 7th on day one with just under 18 lbs. 20 fish over 5lbs were caught on Saturday and believe same thing happened on Sunday. Big fish over 7+.

We had 14.92 on day one, and never saw how we placed, and on day two we weighed 17.46, which I am guessing was either 6th or 7th overall, one place out of the money. 5th had 33 and change.

I hope the turnout will be better next year

Jeff

We only had 14.43 on Day 1, so on Day 2 we focused on trying to win Big Fish money.  Mike landed a 6.66 largemouth on Day 2, and we still didn't win big fish money; that hurts.

It was a good tournament for a good cause; I hope next year this scheduling conflict doesn't happen again.

Overall, there was a lotof tournament angling fishing last weekend in the Pacific Northwest.  Wish I had some time to perform an economic impact study to document the value of these tournaments to the economy, and to document the outdoor recreational value of all this tournament fishing.  We are all doing our part to stimulate the economy and to pay the wages of our fisheries biologists.

With no sleep and a 7 hour drive under our belt Rob and I fished the Cour D'Alene tournament which had a turnout of 55 boats or so. What an amazing lake! I highly recommend anglers from NW Bass to participate in that tournament if Gary holds it again. Not only because it gets everyone out of there comfort zone, but change is a welcome relief from the typical 6 bodies of water we fish. Weekend warriors alike, it was a great lake to junk fish. We had never laid eyes on the lake and just went fishing. We lost 2 pigs that could have really put us in the running for a top 5, but that's fishing.
I hear rumblings from guys that want new lakes or same lakes at different times of the year. Finally we have an opportunity for something different and the turnout of Washington anglers was kind of disappointing. Granted we have to make choices based on our own situations, but finally an opportunity for new water and nobody takes advantage of it. We figured that Cour D'Alene would be a donation of our time and money, (which it was) but I had more fun fishing that tournament than any other in the last couple years. At any time a 7-9lb. hawg could jump on your line, and that type of anticipation kept 2 weary anglers pumped all day. At the end of the day 16+ pounds of green and potential for much larger that day was awesome.
Thanks Gary/Lisa/Jeff/Kathy great tournament, cant wait till next year!

Abbottola,

Thank you.

Stilen

I never meant any disrespect to the Stilen-ator.....I truly believe that the NW is the best trail we have to choose from.  As you said Abbotola, we have to make choices based on our situations.  My whole life has been turned upside down in the last 6-8 months and I would have enjoyed the CDA tournament, but I chose to donate less money, closer to home this time because of my situation.  We too, just missed a good check by ounces and had a good time. If I can get a partner lined up, I will be back on the NW next year, but I also will be donating at the Potholes event in a few weeks too.
