Borderline Bassin Contenders will be holding their annual Lake Whatcom Spring Open on Saturday, April 26th 2014.  We decided as a club that having this tournament on opening day is what makes it so special and are opting to keep it always as a Saturday tournament.  I apologize to anyone who wants to fish but has other obligations.  Driver's meeting will be at 6 AM ish depending on how long registration takes with the gate not opening until 5 most likely. Blast off will hopefully be at safe light.  Please try to be registered with your boat inspected prior to the driver's meeting.  I will be in the upper portion of the parking lot at Bloedel Donovan Park at 5 AM accepting entry forms and doing boat inspections as people drive in.  Entry fee is $110 per team this year plus $20 big fish.  Entry fee is paid back 80% and big fish 100%.  Payout is 50% to 1st, 30% to 2nd, and 20% to 3rd.  Weigh in will be at 3 PM.  I have attached the entry form and rules to this thread.  If you would like to mail your entry in early, PM me and I can provide you with my address.  I removed the 25 boat rule from the regs as we are allowed to have 75 by law.  Please try to bring your own signed entry form to the tournament if at all possible.  I will bring extras but it is tough to bring enough for everyone.  If you have any questions, shoot me a PM.  As it is every year, this tournament should be a blast and the fishing should be excellent!  Hope to see all of you there that can make it!

No need to worry about AIS stickers in advance.  Last year, the city of Bellingham simply charged the club $5 for every boat there that didn't have an AIS sticker.  Also, please make sure everything (compartments, livewells, bilge, etc.) in your boat is COMPLETELY DRY AND FREE OF ANY VEGETATION when you show up. I would hate for the city to turn someone away.

Clarification on issues that have come up in the past, these will be handled at my discretion:

1)  Each team will be allowed one re weigh.  If you choose to re weigh, you must take your second weight regardless of what it turns out to be.

2) Carbureted two stroke outboards are not allowed on Lake Whatcom.  You are allowed to have one on your boat and only run your trolling motor however.  Therefore, Borderline will not tell someone whether or not they can fish based on their outboard.  Also, it is impossible for me personally to watch everyone so I will not take any protests involving people saying someone was running an illegal outboard.  However, if you do run a carbureted two stroke motor, you are subject to being written a ticket.  There was no one on the lake enforcing this law last year but I cannot gaurantee this will be the case again this year.  I haven't heard any news on whether they will be enforcing this law this year.  If you do run a carbureted two stroke motor, understand that you are doing so AT YOUR OWN RISK.  Borderline will not assume any responsibility if you are written a ticket.

3) Off limits - Off limits to competitors start on Monday, April 21st and run through Friday, April 25th.  5 days prior to the event are off limits.

4)  There is a 40 mph speed limit on the lake.  Again, we are not able to enforce this but you are subject to being written a ticket if you travel faster.

5)  Please Check the new regs as I made some revisions.

Panicky your the man, only thing is if written a ticket are the law breakers immediately disqualified?

Do we give you the $5 if we don't have the a is sticker?
I am stoked for this event! Didn't get a chance to fish whatcom much last year besides with Matt Johnson in the fall. Ron I take it Mike will be fishing with you? Been a while since I seen him, this should be fun...or an ass whoopin. Either way good times!

Can't wait for this!

Sorry for the late reply! I was in Clear Lake all weekend and wifiless. We aren't planning on DQ'ing anyone due to a motor infraction and haven't heard of a single ticket written to date. If it happens at some point, maybe we will have to revisit that for the following years open. Is that ok?
As far as the AIS sticker goes, if you don't have one, the club is paying the $5, not you. We just write them a check for $5 x number of boats without once everyone has been checked. See you there!

Fun times again this year! I apologize for not being there right at 5 but we got everyone launched maybe 10-15 mins later than planned so no harm, no foul!  It won't be a common occurrence, I swear! haha! Also, I was probably in zombie mode all day yesterday so I apologize for that as well. Good to see everyone that made it again. Anyways, the fish were acting a little funky but the top 3 are as follows. Robert and I are getting way too comfortable with those 4th-6th place spots. You would think that if you do that and get super close to breaking through enough you will one of these times but all you can do is fish hard and keep trying :)

1) Curt Huisman 16.45 lbs

2) PJ Koshi and Joel Alinen 16.06 lbs

3) Matt Johnson and Trevor Radach 15.85 knocked down to 15.60 after dead fish penalty

Big Fish: Bill Smith and Ron Helvey 4.97 lb brute!

Great job to all!
