Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I have a Shimano Sedona 1000 FD that is less than 6 months old. Recently I dropped the reel in some sand and we all know how that turns out! So I decided to take it apart myself and clean the reel out. I have re oiled and relubed it. I've done this before with some of my other spinning reels and its worked out fine. But for some reason this time when I reel in, it isnt smoooth AT ALL. Sounds like the gears are misaligned and hitting something or even one another. Please help a fellow bass fisherman out! I wouldn't want to have my dropshot reel down the drain. Any reel services or anyone on this website know any info and/or willing to repair it? Willing to pay of course.

That is where I send my reels to.

You can also search wafish  (in the top right corner) under reel repair and several threads pop on the subject.

I was thinking something local but if I dont find anything else id have to go to them they are mentioned a lot. Thanks!

Maybe Johnny can help. He is Orting. Not sure if he still does reel repair and don't have his number. Maybe someone on here can help.

Honestly the cost of fixing and shipping, gas to drop it off might be more than to buy a new one, where ever you decide to take it. $60 for new or $40 for repair.....

You do have a great point Hobbs! Maybe ill sit here and eventually try to figure this darn thing out. Thanks for the info guys.

After sitting here for an hour trying to figure out what was wrong with it, Ive figured it out! It seems like after looking at the schematics i was missing a couple of washers and the gears needed some type of precision alignment and the teeth needed to be put perfectly together. Put the reel back together and VOILA! Thanks for all the info and help guys. I learned something new and saved myself a few bucks.

Future reference, Johnny is a great place to send it off to. He fixed mine and tuned it for a steal of a deal, I hated the reel and was going to get rid of it but I love it now!

+1 on what hobbs said, I sent a abu garcia c4 down there to get repaired. The day after I got it back I took it lingcod fish and a small lingcod exploded the gears upon them being replaced. I won't go back to them.

Ollie Damon's is a great place to grab a part you may need for a reel or trolling motor part. After using them for 15 reels est. I believe 5 were done properly, and they were just cleanings and drag replacements. 1 reel in particular that I took to them 3 times, spent over $190 and it came back in worse shape than the original visit. They actually installed broken pieces back into the reel!!! This whole ordeal took 12 months, of waiting, waiting, and more waiting for parts to come in. Bad mouthing Ollie Damon's is not my goal, they will still receive my business for on hand parts or accessories. As for the reel repair, avoid unless it's your last option.
