Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I had a rather nice phone call today with Roberta Davenport, Aquatic Reserves Program Manager, Department of Natural Resources, Aquatic Resources Division. Please read the attached files. It's good to see a positive project in the works. I plan on making the meeting.

Would this keep the tweekers out of the parking lot?  I won't even fish it anymore because I can't enjoy myself when I'm on the water.  I'm too worried about someone breaking into my truck.

I discussed this very subject with Roberta, her response was that security cameras have proven to be a useful deterrent.

  Thank you for your response.

I know there are conflicts that life presents us with that may prevent some of you from attending this meeting. I will put together a document of your honest concerns noting which web site and name of concerned individual to the meeting. As I have posted this information here and the WBC web site. There is strength in numbers, the greater number of people I can represent the more weight our concerns will carry.

Rodney, so do they have the cameras installed already?

This is a proposed reserve. No cameras are installed.

Meeting #2 this evening at Kapowsin Elementary 6:30-8:30

Open House Meeting (Session 2) Proposed Lake Kapowsin Aquatic Reserve

Lake Kapowsin is proposed as an aquatic reserve because it is a rare, undeveloped, Puget lowland lake that contains important habitat for fish and other species. It was created 500 years ago by the Electron mud flow in the Puyallup River, drowning a forest of large trees.

Department of Natural Resources is hosting a second open house about the proposed Lake Kapowsin Aquatic Reserve to build upon the discussion from an Oct 2nd meeting. At the first meeting, DNR provided information on Aquatic Reserves, and community members provided ideas, comments and questions on the proposal

Maybe if it goes through they can stop the dump that was put in overnight due to big money that sits on top of the local aquifer that sits up the road two miles.

I was a bit skeptical prior to the meeting but overall it seems DNR has good vision. They made it clear that fishing/hunting (water fowl) would continue as normal. Where things got weird was when some opponents began questioning DNR. It became very clear that their are a few different groups that have bigger plans, basically lining their pockets with some cash. One group wants to do some development, another wants to build a large park(limited details) another wants a "Boating Resort" and wants to remove the stumps from the lake...No BS. When these ideas were being pitched, I voiced my opinions and likely pissed off a few in the process. Of these special interest groups, I have no idea if this is just "ideas" or if they actually already have money into their ideas. It was just really weird. A 3rd meeting will be held in the near future (TBA)

Kevin, thanks for making this second meeting, I had a conflict that took priority. It is an interesting process isn't it?

We will have a special guest at our Western Bass Club May 20th monthly meeting at the Round Table Pizza, 4002 A St SE, Auburn. David Palazzi, Department of Natural Resources - Aquatics Program, Planning Program Manager will provide an update on the planning process, and soon to be formed management plan committee, for the proposed reserve at Lake Kapowsin.  Speaker will be there starting between 6:30 and 7 P.M. If this is a lake you like to fish/hunt/boat and want to know what is up come on down, all guests are welcome.

Rescheduled to the 17 June meeting.
