BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Thongpun But took first place Aug. 13 with 17.97 pounds at Borderline Bassin' Contenders' Lake Whatcom Open individual tournament. Many anglers reported good fishing conditions early, with the bite slowing down as the day wore on.

Bill Smith took second place with 17.04 pounds and won the big fish pot with a 4.26-pound smallmouth. David Parnicky rounded out the top three with a 16.74-pound bag.
