Got some birthday gift cards and looking to add a great all purpose spinning rod to add to my arsenal. I already have a great dropshot rod so I'm looking for a good tube, fluke, etc. rod...thoughts?

G. Loomis Classic Popping-PR844S (GL3).....these rods get the job done for all purpose and for $175.00-$200.00  I don't think you can go wrong

Joel ,

Take a look at the Dobyns 702 Fury Series Rod . The Best bang for your buck in the market HANDS DOWN !!

I dont use em a whole lot, but if its 7ft, fast action, and has medium power... Its gotta be pretty good I guess. 852 in just about any material loomis makes is my sword o' choice. I have (2) 852 mossybacks that I use for anything you can shake a stick at.
If you are looking for the ULTIMATE fluke rod (which can also double as a great tube rod for pulling overgrown smallies from the depths), contact Jake @ Alpha Angler.
803NRX

G-Loomis GLX902 or as Tag said, get ahold of Jake and have a custom Alpha Angler rod made. Can't go wrong with either option.

I had Jake Boomer (Alpha Angler) design a custom fluke rod for me and it is the real deal.  Like Tag mentioned, it will work for many different techniques and is meant to tangle with big SM.

Are you guys throwing flukes on a spinning rod? I have been using the 893NRX and love it. It may be personal preference, but I feel like I have a whole lot more control over the fish during the battle, and don't seem to suffer any loss of casting distance running braid to flouro.

Don, what are the specs of the rod you had Jake build you?

Hey Don, thank you for posting. I didn't want to divulge the details of the design without your blessing so I'm glad you chimed in. At 7'10" in length with a solid backbone and perfect tip section, this rod casts like no other spinning rod I've ever thrown. In addition, like you mentioned, the power/action/taper is perfect for big fish and a variety of techniques.

Jordan, you know I prefer to use baitcasting gear whenever possible, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a baitcasting combo that could throw a fluke the distances this rod does with the braid to fluoro setup I prefer over straight fluoro. Just my humble opinion. It is truly a "you have to see it to believe it" type of scenario.

I can see with the extra length and a tip section that loads up a little more on the cast why that would make a difference in distance. Like you said Tag, I'm not much for a spinning rod when I can get way with a baitcaster, but if there was a spinning rod I could get down with it's probably that one from the sounds of it!

I learned from a former river rat...parnsworth...that any rod related to fluke fishing that's endorsement by Mr. Don Hogue is as good as gold! Tag you gonna be at the Whatcom Open tomorrow to let us demo that rod:-)
Hey Joel, traveling at the moment, unfortunately. Will be back in Bellingham late tomorrow night.
