Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

This morning at 8:15 I looked out my living room window and saw my boat cover lying next to my boat!  It looked like there was a bunch of clothes piled in the cockpit.  I got closer and saw it was a tweaker who had wrapped himself around the heater I keep in the boat to fight off the dampness.  I called the cops, he took off, and I saw the fire extinguisher had been removed, the running lights were on the ground, the GPS antenna was messed with, first aid kit was opened, my battery charger was disconnected, and a few things scattered about.  Cop pulls up at 8:30, says they've caught a suspect, I jump in the car and yep, that's him. Two cops are going through his things when he mentions to one of them that he has needles in his backpack. That stops the search right there. We go back and inventory the boat.  The only things missing--a couple of fizzing needles.  As I'm trying to explain to the cop why I have needles in my boat, another cop pulls up to take pictures of my boat and any damage.  He happens to be a fisherman and explains to the other cop that nearly everyone who fishes for bass in Lake Whatcom probably has needles to save fish that have been caught deep.  The cops do some paperwork and leave.  A few minutes later a neighbor walks by.  She said the cover was on the boat at 7:50 when she walked past it this morning.  My thanks to Bellingham's Finest for the good work.

Joe I hate to tell you. Once you let riff raff in your boat like Dez all sorts of his buddies start showing up unannounced.   Glad nothing was damaged or missing and You did not get hurt.

Its been happening a lot around the black diamond area too. My boat is docked at a buddies house on sawyer and about a month ago had the cops come to my house and told me my boat was tied up to a buoy on the north end of the lake. The tweakers took my outboard and were too stupid to take the bow mount off but ruined it by cutting all the wires.

Now THAT's funny!  Thanks for making me smile.

There was a guy out here on the Key Peninsula that had some gear stolen from his boat. So he set up a game camera, when the kids came back to steal his outboard he got some photos of them, posted some reward posters and ended up catching them.

Quick story about thieves getting what they deserve:

Over a decade ago, a friend of mine had his rig broken into a couple times at a parking lot located on a popular salmon/steelhead river.  Fishermen would park there early in the morning while it was still dark and hike a good distance to their fishing holes.  Rigs would commonly get broken into while the anglers were a long ways from their vehicles.

One time my buddy decided to take everything out of his vehicle and fill his glove compartment and center console with broadheads.  He left the vehicle unlocked so the thief wouldn't need to break a window.  Needless to say, when the thief got into his rig and started rooting around in the dark, the result wasn't pretty.  The clean-up was quite a chore apparently, but someone definitely learned their lesson that morning.

sharp and to the point. *badoom pshhh*
