Anyone warrantied a Loomis rod lately ?  I had one break and was hoping to do the simple Xpeditor program with $50 but it's not that simple anymore.  You send in your broken rod, they charge you a $20 processing fee, then they access the damage and come up with a $ amount you owe for the new rod.
If you have had one warrantied, what rod was it and what did they charge you ?  I had one of there most expensive break on a hookset and I have a feeling I'm going to be paying for it.     Any input much appreciated.

P.S.  Can I take the rod into Auburn or 3 River's and get a new one ?

Easy on the hookset, CB4!  The way you set the hook, they'll think you ran over it with your pickup.

he doesnt believe in reeling in the fish, just hookset and flip the fish in the boat from 50 yards out. all one motion

I recently sent in 3 rods to be warrantied. 2 broken on hooksets (BSR852 GLX's) and one with a broken tip insert (BCR853 GLX).

Before I sent the rods in I gave them a call and was told that I could either send them in for warranty with the $20 per rod handling fee or send them in under the $100 each, no questions asked, rod replacement fee.

Mailed them under warranty and was charged $40 for two rods that are supposed to be replaced under warranty. One rod they deemed not defective and were going to charge me the $20 handling and $199 for replacement. I asked them if we could just use the $100 replacement program and Linda from Gloomis said maybe but I would be still charged the additional $20 for handling. Didn't appear to be anymore she was willing to do so decided to just accept it and move on.

As of today, one rod has shown up and it was the BCR853 with replaced tip guide. Haven't seen the other two.

Total cost this way: $160 to Gloomis, $40 for shipping with Insurance for $200 total and it's been about 3 1/2 weeks now.

Under the $100 each program it would of been $300 total since they send you the product and you return it under their shipment label.

Hmmm disappointing to hear.  At that extreme price and G Loomis are certainly at the top end of the price curve, I'd hope they had a more angler friendly warranty.  Not sure why if they have the broken rod they can't replace it. It clearly doesn't cost that much to make them, and at 3+ bills a piece.....

When you have 'em paying that much for a rod, you'd think you'd bend over backward to keep them paying that much for more rods.  To replace a rod now and then to keep folks coming back ....

Let me tell you how the hardest customer to get to buy a $300-$600 rod is one that has never done it before... take care of the ones you have.

I think they are missing the big picture and it will cost them ......eventually.

Just ask Sony who's stock is below 1000 yen, about $12.00 US, was over $300.00 per share back around 2001, and came from $12.00 back in 1985. ... The death spiral with no recovery because of similar behavior of thinking you have the customer right where you want them.

my 2 cents.

Hmmm they have my dropshot rod right now. Just about 3 weeks now and I haven't heard anything. This might well be something I take into account next time I buy a new rod.

Shimano is all I can say. Broke a crucial at Nixon's moses tourney. Sent it back to them in Cali and a week later my brand new one arrived. 25 bucks for shipping and thats it. That is the fastest I've gotten one back, by about a month, but still, send it in and get a brand new rod. Not a bad deal.

I was aware of the $100 fee, but I don't see that on the PDF form they make you send in.  I have a feeling that's not an option anymore.  I will call tomorrow.

So If they can do it with Shimano Rods and Shimano is the parent company of loomis.... then why not have a great exchange program for the  Loomis rods that they charge so much more for.  Great rods, but seems they have the right practice with the Shimano rods for the long run.

Chris- you can take to Three Rivers for expedite for $100 each but get new ones on the spot (if in stock). Or they can mail them in for you for a small fee.

Hope that helps and you get taken care of. Be glad they are just broken and not on the bottom of Lake Sammamish! Oops! ):

Having said this I got home to find a brand new GLoomis dropshot rod at my house.  $20 for a new Loomis is alright in my book.  Hope it wasn't a fluke.  Thanks GLoomis!

Thanks for all the info, especially Nick

I found out what I was doing wrong, I was looking under warranty instead of service on their website.  I'm going to do the Expedite, for $100.
