Anyone warrantied a Loomis rod lately ?  I had one break and was hoping to do the simple Xpeditor program with $50 but it's not that simple anymore.  You send in your broken rod, they charge you a $20 processing fee, then they access the damage and come up with a $ amount you owe for the new rod.
If you have had one warrantied, what rod was it and what did they charge you ?  I had one of there most expensive break on a hookset and I have a feeling I'm going to be paying for it.     Any input much appreciated.

P.S.  Can I take the rod into Auburn or 3 River's and get a new one ?

Yeh, G. Loomis warranty sucks now, read the fine print. Lamiglas and St. Croix are the only ones that are still doing it right.

Seems like a $100 "warranty" is a bit much. Makes you wonder for such an expensive rod. I think Nathan is on with his post. If I break my Loomis, sounds like it's going in the trash. I'll be damned if I will pay other than shipping for a "lifetime" warranty. I work in retail and I understand warranties. My customers would not tolerate anything like that. Maybe I read this wrong, but it sounds like bull***t to me

They had to go to this because too many guys were claiming warranty or defect when the rod broke because of abuse or neglect.  The higher modulos of graphite used means more expense, unfortunately the higher modulos graphite can't take the abuse of cheaper or lower modulos rods.  Higher the modulos the stiffer and more brittle it is.  If I break a rod in the upper half of the rod it is probably because the blank was bruised, do to me not taking care of it, or a mishap with a flying lure coming back and hitting the blank, or just hitting the blank on the side of the boat.  The lower section of the rod or the power section if this breaks there is definetely a defect, this should never break. This being said if the top of my rod breaks I just pony up the $100 dollars and expedite it, I know its my fault, for not taking better care.

Ron is exactly right. Another practice that made this warranty change a necessity was people buying broken Loomis rods on eBay, getting them warranteed for minimal cost, and then selling the new rods for a profit. The anglers did this to themselves.
Ebay! Profit? Missed my calling.

Ha ha....those crafty entrepreneurs were way ahead of the curve.

Honestly, they are doing the angler a favor, if you laugh at this then, you should check into the Japanese Market and the rods going for $700,$800 and even $1000 +  megabass and other leading Japanese rod manufacturers, will not replace a rod that has been broken unless it is definetely a defect in their workmanship. No expedite no amount off a new one, you're just SOL.  The guys over there definetely take care of their equipment. Again their rods are way over the price of a Loomis and no replacement warranty program.  I cannot expect to break a rod 3 times and get it replaced 3 times for free could you imagine the company would be losing money, even after 1 replacement, I would have to imagine they are cutting their profit.

If guys are worried about warranties and breaking rods go to cheaper rods like ugly stiks and you wont have to worry about warranty replacement because they just won't break.

Very good points. In talking with a couple of the leading rod manufacturers about this subject, very few (less than 10%) of the breaks warranteed by these manufacturers are actually due to defects in worksmanship.

They know exactly how a break looks when it's a defect vs. angler neglect/misuse.

I had a month old Loomis 894 break on it's first fish, and the fish was barely 3 lbs.  Must be my hookset technique, cause there was no angler abuse leading up to it.  Another $100 and I'm starting to get ticked  lol.

My son just broke a NRX last week.  I didn't think too much about the warranty because I have the "Wildcard" for the rod.  I thought I was golden, just stop by any authorized G. Loomis dealer and exchange it on the spot.   Unfortunately none of the authorized dealers in the area carry the rod. So in order to exchanged the rod I was quoted $45 to send and received it from the factory.  I dont see the benefit of the wild card.  I could send it back just by the warranty.  And on a side note except for 3 rivers which I hadn't actually visit (I called), the NRX stock in "Authorized dealers" is abysmal.  Apparently lack of sales has retailers reducing their inventory.

"If guys are worried about warranties and breaking rods go to cheaper rods like ugly stiks and you wont have to worry about warranty replacement because they just won't break."  Most people rely on warranties because they buck up on a rod and expect a warranty if it breaks. I'm not saying a lot of breakage isn't angler abuse, I know I have abused a rod or two, and have them break. My bad. I know too, that I haven't, and have had a rod break when it shouldn't. I've paid to have it replaced when I didn't think I should...whatever. One shouldn't have to resort to an Ugly Stick because they seldom break. A warranty is just that...a warranty. A manufacturer standing behind their product. It's a selling point. Sure, a lot of people try and abuse the "warranty" aspect, and I understand manufacturers hesitation. Comparing the Japanese rod market to ours is like comparing apples to oranges. Kinda doesn't work. Just shop and ask around to find what others have experienced, and make a decision. There are good rods out there without the warranty b.s. and without having to spend $300-$600 or more on a rod.
