Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I have one of these mounted at the bow, running off of my trolling motor transducer (Minn Kota Terrova). My issue is that I am constantly getting crazy depth readings. I was out this morning and had to shut it down and restart it no less than 5 times to get it to work as in give me an accurate depth (I was out just over 4 hours). In addition, I just cannot seem to dial it in when it is working. The screen is constantly showing a blob of junk. I go back to the finder on the console and I see a nice, clear bottom and little "junk" between there and the surface. The console finder is an HDS 5 combo, running off of a dedicated transducer on the transom.

Any guidance on how to tweak the settings to make the darn thing not freak out on me and maybe show something of value beyond a bunch of junk?

That's a really solid fishfinder so it's probably either defective or mounted improperly. I'd start by getting a good look at the transducer. It could also be interference with the HDS. Shut off the HDS 5 first then run the CHIRP. If the CHIRP works then the transducer cables are likely too close and need to be rerun. Hopefully one of these suggestions helps you figure something out!

great idea, I will try that next time out.

I went out last night and fiddled with the settings. As it turns out, I had one of the CHIRP settings selected. I changed that setting to 200/83 and 200 and tested both. After I cycled the unit under each setting, the finder performed flawlessly. For whatever reason, the unit didn't like the CHIRP settings, I am guessing it has to do with US2 transducer not supporting the CHIRP signal?

Sounds like it. Good job at getting it worked out!
