  • I feel the same; however, what will I be getting in return, and is the fee fair? With at least two dozen private ramps on the lake, plus the ability of canoeists and kayakers to launch just about anywhere, how does this ensure the prevention of invasive species? Waterfowl are also potential carriers. How was the $50 arrived at, and what happens once the fee is paid? What happens if we take our boats to other lakes? According to the previous survey, the only "infected" boats were pleasure boats (ski and wakeboard) that had previously been on Lake Osoyoos (sp) in BC. Does this mean that when we have an open tournament (averaging about 20-25 boats), there will be an additional $20 fee per boat? Will there be inspectors there at first light? Let's keep in mind that the nearest zebra mussel infestation is more than one thousand miles away, and those sites are monitored by the EPA and local authorities. Zebra mussels have been in the U.S. for decades, and containment procedures have been aggressive. Asian clams may be invasive, but there's ample evidence of predation, and there is no evidence that the infestation is impeding or affecting our water supply or other species. It's not unusual to have 200 boats of all types on the lake on a summer's day. Do they really need to charge $20 or $50 per boat? There's a part of me that considers this fee to be more punitive (fewer people will be on the lake because they have to pay) than really necessary. If that is the case, then this practice needs to be scrutinized carefully. Remember, those of us who live in Bellingham are already paying a storm water assessment fee, plus a fee to help purchase watershed property. In spite of these fees and ridiculously unenforceable laws, the lake continues to degrade.

Chris Hollick is man of great integrity, I'm proud to call him my friend. Busy weekend, 100 bass boats, trailers and trucks plugging the launch. Nothing said, except our trailer's lost a bearing and we are waiting for parts to get all 100 fixed.

This is to the Bellingham City Council. I was born and raised in Bellingham for fifty years. I've maintained residence, own a home, pay taxes and support youth activities. I'm embarassed to admit that I live in a town that continues to defy logic. You all are absolute idiots. Enjoy the last couple years of my tax contributions to your sorry ass city. My money and community support will be moving on.

They may want the boats off the lake but they say nothing about parking our boats in the parking lot, maybe we should get there early and just plug the parking lot and then see what comes next. Instead of moaning about this problem let do something about it, silent protest for a few weekends.

Eveytime I empty my "Pee" bucket at Whatcom I have to snicker a bit.......Drink up Bellingham.

Instead of complaining about the issue, why not take some action against it while we still can?

Here's a contact page for all of Bellingham's council members.

Been there, done that.  Good idea, though.  It seems that minds have already been made up.  City council meeting is this coming Monday, March 11th.
