Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Hey while your at the Sportmans Show, if you have ever thought about a fishing vacation in Mexico, stop by the TailHunter International Booth.  I took a trip a couple years back and it is the best ever. I'll be going back in the fall if you're interested in a group trip.   Jonathan and Jill Roldan are owner operators, and fabulous people. Say Hi and ask Jonathan how a Hawaiian Dude, who studied Law at UCLA, Practiced law for 12 years came to be the best outfitter on all the Sea of Cortez.

See the photos in my album. http://www.wafish.com/photo/albums/la-paz-tailhunter-international.

Jonathan will treat you to a DVD and Pamphlet to take home and check out, and if your interested in group rates let him know.

They operate out of La Paz Mexico,  which in a recent study was ranked the 3rd safest city of its size in all of North America. About 300K population.  Everything is inexpensive there, (except for fishing gear) but great place to explore, lots to do for an entire family, and the fishing is second to none.

If you have ever fished the Pacific Ocean you know you get tossed around pretty much all day, with few exceptions, and then the fish aren't biting.  On the Sea of Cortez you have all the same species, but just in greater concentration and you can take your wife and kids for the fish of a lifetime because its like a lake.  I spent most of my days in a lot of shallow water, under 20 feet, casting at targets... what a cool hook up and everything has a worse attitude than any thing in freshwater.

Trying to keep a Pargo off the rocks in 7 feet of water is a challenge. I hooked Marlin, Dorado, Pargo, Snapper, Rooster, Lady Fish, Sierra, Parrot, Needle, Jack Cravell, and at least 7 other species I didn't know what they were called and the I don't remember the spanish word for them.

Take care and see ya there,

Steve

My wife and I saw their office last April when we visited La Paz.  It's right on the main road and is quite the landmark.   Here's a pic.

Yup that's the restaurant. They have their office, and little store and the best part, the Fubar Cantina, which is on the first floor for obvious reasons.

Did you get out fishing?

No we didn't.  My wife and I were actually honeymooning, visiting an old Navy buddy of mine who sailed down from San Diego.  We spent a week on his boat.  But I was able to look over some of the local fishermens  shoulders while they fished off the breakwater.  The fishing there is incredible.  It was the best non-fishing vacation I've ever had.

Funny thing is I didn't go down for the fishing, as a matter of fact I didn't know it was so amazing. I went for a Spanish immersion class with Se Habla LaPaz a local school that teaches spanish this way, and they turned me on to Jonathan and Tailhunter.  Next trip I am taking a couple of heavy flippin sticks and reels that will hold a lot of line, there is nothing like casting at targets that can yank it outta yer hands.
