The Whatcom County Council has quietly amended their 2-stroke ban to basically allow some 2-stroke motors to legally use the lake. Here's the amendment: CARBURATED TWO-STROKE ENGINES ARE PROHIBITED ON LAKE WHATCOM UNLESS THEY ARE CERTIFIED AND LABELED AS MEETING 2006 OR LATER MODEL YEAR EPA ADMISSION STANDARDS. The EPA document on which this ordinance is based is actually an AIR QUALITY document issued to outboard manufacturers to reduce air pollution on US lakes, primarily Lake Tahoe in California/Nevada. This directive was issued, I think in 2000, and the industry had five years to meet these standards. Japanese manufacturers (Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki) actually met or exceeded these standards prior to 2006, but the labels weren't added until that year.
