Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Tag Watson and Mike Hastings took big fish honors for the 2nd time in a row last weekend with a 6.90lb largemouth. Here's the winning fish:

Undoubtedly these guys are the ones to aim for as the next one plays out on Moses, then Potholes where they won their first one last spring. Goes to show big fish hunting pays off!  Congrats fellas!

Not sure if you guys realize it, but your team name oughtta be Team Wastings. Mostly because its a blend of your last names, but also because you are wasting the competition.

Custom Jerseys should probably be made, and this is yet further proof that in any format, the best anglers are going to eat the majority of pie.

You make  great point Jake. It's interesting to look at the winners of these events so far (at least in washington). All recognizable names... Even when you get down to the hourly payouts, it's mostly people you see towards the top at other more traditional circuits. Although the format does theoretically level the playing field, it seems like those who put themselves in a position to catch a big one definitely still have the odds in their favor (ie. Team Wastings). I'm still waiting for the time when a guy sticks an 8 throwing a senko on the dam at potholes though. It's only a matter of time...

I would like to quickly share some genuine feedback on a couple products that helped contribute to a great event:

I am thoroughly impressed every time I ride and fish in Mike's 920 Phoenix. The wide beam, stable fishing platform with padded deck, speed, handling, storage and smooth ride make for enjoyable days on the water. We were comfortable and dry running back and forth to Coulon. This was a nice consolation since our quality smallmouth and largemouth kept getting beat by bigger smallmouth and largemouth!

Secondly, the Alpha Angler Zilla rod played a huge role in catching the winning fish. I skipped a 1/2 oz. swim jig paired with a 6" swimbait trailer out the other side of a wide boat dock platform and the fish bit right as the lure was coming back into the shade. I do not own another rod that allows me to skip and roll cast heavier baits as accurately (7'3" length plus the ideal tip), with the horsepower to get them away from cover in a hurry. This rod is legit and extremely versatile. I highly encourage you to check one out for your arsenal. I am going to purchase my third very soon because I keep discovering more applications. The best part: Alpha Angler is a local company!
