I will be doing a Ranger boat demo day at Lake Washington’s Gene Coulon Park in Renton on Saturday, August 15th from 7:00AM to ? with my new Ranger Boat; the Z520 with an Evinrude E-TEC 250HO. One of Rangers premier tournament boats! This boat is Rangers fastest boat currently on their line up and has an extremely smooth ride, lots of storage, very stable fishing platform and a huge front deck. It has received rave reviews and is considered one of the best tournament packages out… Continue

Lake Oroville- Cougars claim victory!

Its Thursday- just two more days until were on Lake Oroville for the 3rd tournament of the season, and already it’s the ONLY thing on my mind… The thought is tearing through my mind faster than a 250 horse Merc at take-off, and just imagining the feeling of a rod in my hand is enough to get my heart pumping. Enthusiasm and excitement are surely in no short supply, and for a bunch of wide-eyed college kids, this is what dreams are made of.

Looking at barely half the drive of our Lake… Continue

Lake Roosevelt 2009

Thursday

2600 miles, 150 gallons of gas, and 8 hours of fishing to make it all worth it…this is the WSU bass team. We’ve got 30-something rods innovatively packed in a massive concrete forming tube, cradled between the seats of our 7-person rental van fittingly named “The Coug-Cruiser”. Needless to say… ITS ON. Our crew consists of Zack, Kipp, Huy, James, myself (Chris), and Sarah (to make sure she keeps the guys from getting out of hand), and one heck of a dad who has put in some… Continue

Custom Painting Cranks

A couple of months ago I was fishing from the shore and happened upon a crankbait. A Mann's 15+ to be exact, with no paint, covered in dirt, and rusted of hooks. I picked it up and said, hell, I should repaint this. So I did.

Too bad I didn't make sure the bait worked first, cuz it don't. After a lot of reworking of the bill, its close, but not there yet. I knew I could do better though, so I ordered some blanks, snagged some old baits, and… Continue

Islandbass’s Baby Bass – Crankbait #2 Completed

I finally got around to completing it. This is the same one that caught a largemouth bass while I was field-testing it when it was still unpainted.

Before

This time, I used a super cheap airbrush that I bought a long time ago and forgot about until I did a little spring-cleaning in the garage. The dark green strip was done by dabs with a hand brush.

After

This is what I… Continue

This makes me sick!

I'm going to share an experience with you guys and I know what most of you think. I wanna here some feedback from you all and just tell me if I'm out of line or nuts!

Most of you know that I fished the Memorial tournament last week. Fun as hell by the way. This area is on the Columbia River and the area I fish is by the mouth of the Okanogan river. As I was traveling up the Okanogan river I couldn't help but notice a giant fishing boat . One that you would see in an area like Puget sound… Continue

Another Father Vs. Daughter Challenge 07-10-09

Shark Bait Scores Again

My daughter and I had another face off today. She started with a spinnerbait and I with my first homemade crankbait. After no fish through the first 15 minutes, I switched to my drop shot rig and casted it out with a 3” Senko, wacky rigged.

As soon as my weight reaches bottom, my daughter snags her lure in the riprap and is unable to free it. She hands me her rod and takes mine and during the exchange I can’t help to think a smallie is going to nail… Continue

Another Crankin’ Story by IB 07-09-09

I recently started making my second crankbait. This one was made using the through-wire construction method, which I found to be a bit more challenging. I also decided to try a slightly different lip angle and use more weight to slow the rise of the crankbait, just to see what that would do.

I had to test the bait because I figured there would be no point in painting it if it didn’t work properly.

I got to the lake’s… Continue
