As you all know, the state of WA will be cutting several programs. Mr. Don Wittenberger from the IFPAG recently started a movement based on my recommendation to initiate an option to make a donation to the WDFW when you purchase a license. Initially, we are sending in checks to the WDFW to get the ball rolling. For more information on the letter Mr. Wittenberger sent, the point of contact at the WDFW or the address to send letters and checks to, please see the discussion in the Musky Group,…

OK, I have had to keep this secret since December, but now that the Classic announcement was made I am allowed to spread the word. Check out Lowrance's new Side Viewing capability. The new HDS units will come with the software already installed, so all you need to add to your regular HDS unit is the Side Viewing transducer.
I'm really looking forward to adding this feature to my networked electronics!
Here is the link to the…

Islandbass’ Take on the Drop Shot
I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I have grown fond of the Drop Shot technique in my short, six-season fishing journey. I found this technique to be a very productive method to catch fish in a variety of states. In my first outing… Continue

So as I was prepping for fishing the other day, tying my jigheads on, threading my soft palstics on the hook, loading my boat with scents and hook sharpeners, I thought to myslelf, "How important is it that I do all of this?" I got to thinking about this today at work, while looking at Lake Washington and not doing what I was supposed to. It's these small things that make the difference, especially this time of year. From using quality rods, reels, line and hooks to making sure your bait is…

Hey, it's cool to see your fish pictures, but when we are a few hundred feet apert on the lake, it's easier to tell who you all are by your boat. Post a picture of your boat so everyone can identify everyone else better.

I just upgraded to a 24volt trolling motor, and am in need of an on-board charger now. I was wondering what you guys have used and what you like/don't like. The old portable just isn't going to cut the mustard anymore. Also, value is a big deal. If one charger is $200 and another that is almost as good is $130, well, that needs to be a real consideration. THIS SPORT IS SO DAMN EXPENSIVE!!!

Hey, April 4th, 2009, is the annual Lake Sammamish Open put on by the Puyallup Hawg Hunters. Entry fees are $120, $20 option and $20 big fish. If you haven't fished this tournament before, it is always fun and the Hawg Hunters do a great job!!! I know it is still a ways out, but mark it on the calender. It will be worth it. Last year, Ron Hobbs Jr. and Jonas Pettit won with 10.02 pounds. Great job guys and hope to see you there this year defending your title!
For info, go…

Guess this site allows us each to have a blog so we can share info and news with others...so I might as well get started. This week marks the beginning of the 2009 tournament season, with the Freeze Your Bass Blast on Sammamish this Saturday. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to it, though I have not even seen Sammamish yet this year. I suspect the docks are under water as usual?
This tourney is really a fun event, and very well run. It is always nice to see all the…

Is there a list in existence that gives the Top 10 or even 5 biggest bass caught in Washington?
Most states have someone who compiles and verifies this information with an updated list. I haven't heard or seen of one for this state.
With the "official" record being caught by Carl Pruitt out of Banks Lake in 77' and weighing 11lbs. 9oz.(anyone seen a pic?), can we add to this to compile some form of trophy Washington State catches over the years? Of coarse, this information will…

I thought about this recently while I was in between bites on Lake Washington on a cold January day recently. Why do I come out here and sit for hours for so few bites and fewer yet rewards of a fish in the boat. Why indeed.
I thought back to my days as a kid. I was very fortunate to have a father who was a tournement bass angler. Even more fortunate to rub elbows with some of the west best bass anglers at a very young age. I got alot of satisfaction of out fishing my older and more…

Fished the "Pilly" w/fishing partner Don Hayes on Sunday 2/1/09. We "did the walk" & waded down the river for about 3.5-4 hours of fishing. Some holes have changed due to the January flooding, but some new ones have also been created. Fished float & jig w/the water a bit high & somewhat dirty. We hit our 4th or so hole when "Bang-A-RANG!" We hooked a big hatchery buck! I took my time and finally landed the 36" fish about 15 minutes later.…

First fish early! put your boat in the water in the dark and be at your first spot as it is just STARTING to get light (just remember safety first, know your water and take a spot light if you need to). This is a very productive time of day! I tend to run and gun more early in the day when the bass are normally more active. As the sun comes up move to shaded area to extend the first light bite. Remember that bass tend to be on the edge of cover early in the morning, like docks & pads. One…

Hit Lake Washington on Saturday. Fished for about 2 hours and got 3 Smallies all over 3 lbs and one over 4lbs. Also got a huge Trout. The bite was on big time. I was showing my brother how to fish deep water Smallies so I spent a lot of time messing around with the graph. Fished about 45-50 feet and was fishing fast to get a bite. 1/2 oz football head with a spider grub. Went out today and got my ass handed to me. I think the small weather front that came through shut them off. Curious to see…

Fished from 11:00 to 2:30. One fish on a C rig in 27ft just under 3 lbs. Cold, foggy and lots of debris in the south end. Saw only one other boat between fog banks.
