A Fishing App for your Android Phone
I've been bass fishing all around the NW for 8 years now and in that time, I had a need for something to keep track of all of my fish, gps locations, you name it. I'm a technical person, so when I got my Android phone, I started building an app for it to track everything.
I just finished up the app a bit ago after 6 months of work, and wanted to share it with my fellow anglers. Hopefully some of you will find it useful, I know that I have already. The app's called My Fishing Companion, which is released on the Android Market if you've got an Android phone (sorry, nothing for iPhone yet).
When building it, I tried to make it as quick and easy to use, as everybody knows, time on the phone is less time fishing. I think I accomplished that, and would love to hear everybody's thoughts and comments on it.
Here's just a few things the app can do:
- Add/Edit a fish (Species, weight, length, weather, water info, gps location, gear, media, etc.)
- Mark fish as favorites or search using keyword
- View fish on Google Maps within the phone
- Lookup weather for current location
- Lookup weather for any place in the U.S. by zip, gps position, or saved location
- Moon phases (Coming in next release)
- Add/Edit locations by zip code, map/gps, or current location
- Save/Edit all of your gear
- Create your gear combos for quickly adding it to a fish when caught
- Lots more
If you wanted to check it out, there is a free/lite version, along with a premium version that does cost some money. There's a lot more info in the links on the market, including pics, so check it out and let me know what you think. I'd love to get some feedback from everybody and like I said, hopefully some of you can find it as useful as I do!

It currently only goes down to 1.6, but I can look into what it would take to get it to work on 1.5 as well. What phone do you have?

Right now I've been focusing most of my efforts on the Android version and getting lots of new features into the app. I do plan on doing an iPhone version, but am also waiting to see how well the Android version does. I spent the last 6-7 months working on it, and I don't think my wife would put up with another round of that unless she knew it would be worth it ;)
