I had a bad experince at Big Salmon Fishing Resort, Neah Bay in early July, 2009. I planned on fishing for five days. I bought gas twice at marina. First day no problem. After second purchase of gas I went out to fish and had problems with my engine. Boat quit running about 3 miles out. I am a retired auto technician and suspected water in the fuel. I called this to the manager's attention at Big Salmon and she said she would have her gas checked. She has not done this, and refuses to send me documentation of such testing. I returned home and had my boat checked out at a local marina. They confirmed I indeed had seven and a half inches of water in my main tank, and the trolling tank was clear full of water. I contacted Big Salmon Resort several times by phone and told them of the results of my local marina, and that I was going to have the repairs done and send them a bill. They refuse to take responsibility for the damage to my boat engine.

My advise to anyone going to Neah Bay to fish is not to get your fuel at Big Salmon Fishing Resort. You want to be ON THE WATER, not find WATER IN YOU FUEL. I did, and it ended up costing me $687.50 in repairs.

I have gone to BBB with a compliant as well as contacted the Makah Indian Council. Attorney General's office suggested small claims court, but that would cost more than the claim. I live in Orting and would have to travel to Port Angeles to file and appear. They probably would not follow through even if I win the case.

I'm sorry to hear this Richard. I have found that it is best to get your boat gas at a normal on land gas pump, but I know with some of the larger salt water boats they stay in the water and there is no way around marina pumps. I hope you find an acceptable resolution, and thanks for the warning!
