The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Hey There!

I am a newbie to smallmouth bass fishing and am heading out to Lake Sammamish on my boat tommorow with my neighbor for our first trip of the season. Can anyone provide any location and technique tips for us? We are anxious to give it a try, we have purchased our tackle at 3-Rivers and attended their bass seminar a few weeks back and have a few ideas but more information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Tim

Thanks Rodney,

I wanted to confirm that the LMS522 ic can show Lake Sammamish on a depth and contour map, I can then spot points and drop offs etc. and then plot a course to my selected locations?

Would this unit be ideal for this lake or would you reccomend something different that could even be more effective.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

I my self have the LMS522 ic on my counsel, good unit. Good price too, wish I had some extra money to replace my Pin Point I have up front with a new 522.

Hello Jordan,

Thank you for your post, my daughter and I were able to hit a few fish that day using common sense for determing locations. We just purchased the boat and now I feel we need to invest in a quality fish finder to acheive better success and results. I have been looking at the lowrance HDS5 and the lowrance LMS 522c (on sale @ Cabellas for $449) Could you suggest a good unit for us to find these elusive smallmouth in Lake Sammamish. I like the idea of viewing an underwater depth map on the screen to see points, drop offs etc, boat to that location that looked good and then view what is underneath us before we present our lures. I value your opinion, you were kind enough to help me purchase the appropriate gear after the bass seminar @ 3-Rivers that day and offer some great tips. I am heading out to Lake Sammamish tommorow to just drive the whole lake to get a better feel for it.

Thanks again!

Hi Tim,

It may be too late, but I would sugest looking in transition areas such as flats adjacent to deep water. The east side of the lake has a number of areas like this so I would focus most my efforts there in 15-20' of water. I would imagine there are a number of bass shallower too, but I think the majority will be in that range. Hula grubs, dropshots, and jerkbaits or cranks in shallower should be the ticket.

Good luck

If this is your first time on the Lake. I would caution you to watch out for the Cameras mid Lake when you are running the Boat on pad. Also it's been really tough for some of us to pattern the fish. Don't be afraid to be creative in your quest. Football heads & Drop shots are prety common right now.(Good luck)have fun

I fished Samammish on Thursday, the water level was REALLY high. All of the docks at the ramp were under water as well as 1/2 of the rest of the docks on the lake. I marked fish holding at 15-20 ft in 30 ft of water on the west shoreline. Only got one strike fishing drop offs in 20ft of water along the South shore. Missed it! I was using crankbaits...Hope the water level has gone down.
I don't fish for smallies very often so maybe someone else can give you some better info.
