There's not a lot of them but what I've caught a real nice ones. I've netted a few for other anglers in my boat also. Some of the good ones have come on musky spinnerbaits and bucktails but I've targeted them this early with soft plastics and caught some nice ones. My best at Mayfield is 4lb 2oz.
Anybody else fish smallies at Mayfield? How do you fish for them?

I missed a really nice 5-6 lb Smallie out by the Goose blind. On Saturday the 18th..thats only the 2nd Smallie I have ever seen since my son caught a dink about 2 years ago..So they are out there with the Muskies...somewhere...when the water gets warmer..sometime!

I've caught a few dinks...but have seen some BIG smallies in here.
Big LMB too. My last trip down here, the wife and I caught some very large trout.

Most of mine have come while musky fishing but there's certainly some smallmouth habitat in Mayfield like all the big riprap along the Hwy 12 bridge approaches.

Fished it once in the spring, and didn't get bit. I stuck to the main river channel, so I know that was my problem. I didn't have much of a choice, since I was in my little boat, and the wind was blowing. I'd love to give it another shot, and search out some warmer water in the South end some other spring.
