I'm heading to Mayfield Lake Easter weekend. I know that it's early for Muskies but I'm going to try. Also has anyone had early Spring success for bass or trout. Any tips and locations would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm back from Mayfield Lake, and my fish finding Lab Belle failed. I did fish for Tigers in Winston cove and never saw a fish. Water temp was at most 49 degrees. There was no other fisherman on the lake last weekend.

I also made a couple of trips up to the Tilton next to the hatchery and my daughter caught one small rainbow. I tried everything, but nothing was biting. There were a few bank fisherman by the hatchery but didn't catch anything. I tried for some bass by jigging some of the deep logs in Winston cove with no results.

Water visibility was way down, still a lot of floating logs so be careful when cruising the lake.

For my first impression, I like the lake and will be back when the water warms up. We stayed at Mayfield Lake Resort, with the RV.

Mayfield is a tough lake all around. I've never caught a tiger here but have had many follows..ugh!
I havn't fished trout this early there...My wife and I caught several large trout(cutts and bows) in June, trolling and casting spoons such as Kastmasters and various others in chrome(great for sunny days) and red/white.
Best of luck down there.

Well first I'd say I hope the water temp goes up a few degrees. It was 42 this last weekend. There were some trout caught up in the Cowlitz and up the Tilton (go through the first neck) then there on the right side. A guy was out there fishing with power bait and caught 2 trout. There were not any Tigers moving around in Winston Cove or the big flat just by the Cowlitz..Didn't see a tiger all weekend. But ifthe water gets around 50 degrees thwen maybe you'll see some. Todd
