Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Hi everyone,

with 2010 winding down, I am curious to know a few things for the future of this site:

1. What is it that you like best about this site?

2. What is it you least like about this site?

3. What would you like to see added in 2010?

This site has been up for a year now and I want to make sure it continues to get better and grow.

I look forward to hearing your feedback and making the appropriate changes.

Thanks!

-J

Jordan, the calander looks great, but how do we get events added to it?

Also, I will 2nd (or 3rd) Eric's comments. What makes this site great is the outstanding advanced level information that is shared AND the joking. The picking on eachother is a lot of fun as long as it doesn't go to the point of attempting to actually do harm to another. I don't mind the flack I take. I actually enjoy it and the opportunity it gives my to dish it back.

WaLakes sucks. I used to look at it before this site, but I don't think I have clicked on it in 6 months. Most of the info is given by hacks and amatures. I just don't think it offers me very much info that I don't know about or care about.

So, what is the problem with WaLakes? I see no problem with it. WaFishing SEEMS to be more for the professional and more serious fishermen, or at least the more serious bass fishemen as that is the only forum I read here. I see a nitch for both web sites. Isn't ANY need to hate either of them as I see it. I've only been on both sites for a couple few months so I missed 'the big battle' I guess. :-) I just believe we all can get along, and all of us can help each other.

Maybe if the bickering and arguing here goes away there would be more humor. I hate arguing and like the humor. That is what I do alot on the car web site I'm on all day. We joke around all the time.

I agree with Jon. Things have been changing that make this site seem more similar to other sites.

If you listen to Tom Edwards that is what he wants. He even suggests you meet with Mike Carey to get advice. Why even have two sites Tom? Are you completely unaware that this site was started by, and joined by people who don't like WaLakes?

I think that this site was a great source of information and a lot of humor in the beginning. Now most of the humor is gone. I guess some here prefer to have it 100% serious with no joking around. Obviously I am not one of those people.

In my mind the change occured when one person in particular started posting a lot. Someone who thinks he is funny but isn't. This led to a lot of boring, senseless bickering that really irritated a lot of people. The whole energy here changed and it just wasn't as fun anymore. Maybe, at times, my humor went too far but at least, from what I have been told, I made people laugh. At any rate those who didn't like me should be pleased that I have removed myself from the equation for the most part.

When I do drop in from time to time all I can say is....yawn.

Like most: The "how to" posts, and other entries where people openly share information. I know we (my family and I) will try new things in 2010 as a result of some of the posts on this site from Ron, Marc, Roger, and many others. I will see one of my kids land a bass on a spinner bait in 2010 and thank you Ron, similarly, every time I rig a QuickDrop on their line I send props up to you Marc.

Also liked: Near real-time updates of our local guys who fished bigger tournaments, while I am not into tournament fishing, I do like to see our local guys square off in the big leagues.

Like least: The threads that degraded into childish name calling and don't help anyone except those people who hate bass fishing

The current political climate does not favor us, people see 200+ HP motors and get all bent out of shape, if there ever is a bad accident, the haters are a couple clicks away from finding posts on here, and they will use them. Why does this matter? when we send guys to Olympia to battle things like the LEAD weight ban, we don't want someone on the other side using things posted on a public forum to blow up any credibility we might have. I think most people here realize that the lead ban is just the tip of the iceberg...

Like to see in 2010:

I would like to see more local (NW) lure makers sponsor the site, right now I am looking to stock up in BULK, and would love to support the NW people and your site at the same time. Buck's idea of a "showcase" section would be good too, in lieu of sponsoring the site they could be featured on a page.

Another thing that might be nice (and this runs a little counter to the sponsorship concept), many tackle sites run sales, it would be great if there was one place on this site where someone who found a deal going on somewhere on the Net could inform the rest of us. (maybe call it "Internet Sales")

Add a "Product Reviews" section where members can contribute their reviews of products.

Thank you Jordan for making this site happen, I am sure it takes a good deal of your time to keep it going.

1. What I like best about this site is having access to local pros and others with experience fishing our Northwest waters. There's always tons of good information.

2. Least like? Glad some of the negative posts were reigned in, and the site seems to have really taken off with hard core information focused on our sport. Some of the crazy posts were entertaining though. :-)! Over the last several months, this site has really had an exciting, up-beat feel and the information keeps getting better! Wafish seems to really be growing into its own!

3. For 2010, it would be great to see a section dedicated to "Tackle Tech" and Reviews" specific to the gear and baits used by our local anglers.

Maybe a product showcase section featuring Wafish members who manufacture their own tackle and baits.

Is there Wafish Tackle Store on the horizon? ;-) !

I Find this to be a teriffic site with loads of information as I am someone new to targeting bass and entering into my second season. I would really like to see a "Whats Hot" section with people posting what is currently working for them at this momement, such as body of water, water temp, depth, choice of baits, etc. It is quite the learning experience to determine the right bait and technique at each particular season. This challenge can sometimes be frustrating but also the beauty of it as there is so much to know to try and catch fish consistently.

1. Great site with lots of great information. I think that the key to this site is that there are lots of great members that are WILLING to share information. That is what will keep this site going in the future.
1. I also really liked some of the instructional blogs posted. These are super helpful when they include both instructions and pictures (i.e. Jordan's jig tying, Dan's plastic pouring, etc.). More blogs like this in the future would be awesome!

2. I agree with Tom on number 2. PMing people that you don't know well when you have a question can be tough as you are required to be someones friend on this site before you are allowed to PM them. There are some sites where you wouldn't want to be able to be PM'ed by all members. I do not see this being a problem on WAFISH however since it seems like most members that are causing problems get booted.

3. As far as things to add, I like Aaron's idea of adding a calendar. Maybe a calendar could be added to each group. The intended use of this calendar would be to post upcoming events that the particular group would be interested in (i.e. seminars, tournaments, product showcases, etc.). Maybe a good way to regulate group calendars Jordan would be to have members send ideas for calendar additions to you. That way you could add them only if they seemed valid. I fear if you let all members update calendars you would get all kinds of crazy things showing up that would have to be deleted and this in turn would create more work for you than reading ideas submitted to you. Just my two cents though.

Anyways, thanks again Jordan and everyone here thats a participating member for making this site so awesome!!!

After all, the 'other web site' has been around for 10 years, take some hints from Mike, he is a good guy. The 2 of you should get together and talk about it.

You don't have to scroll all the way back up and click on 'go back to bass fishing discussions, just click on your browser's 'back button'. That is all I do, works great.

1 - good people with good info

2 you have to 'get a friend' to send them a PM. One guy didn't except my 'friend' so he doesn't get the fishing info he asked for. Maybe he is off site until spring, doesn't help him for river fishing this winter.

2 too much 'don't mention any other fishing web site', grow up and help EVERYONE! Somebody NEEDS to read the FIRST paragraph on the 'main page' again, and again.

2 WAY TOO MUCH QUEER REFERENCE FROM 1 MEMBER IN PITICULAR. Seems he must be trolling for a date instead of fishing.

3 Lake maps and such, like 'the other web site' that shall remain nameless. hint, hint.

More thoughts will probably come to mind later, but this is good for now.
