This is what is happening to the smallmouth on our river folks....Who would be willing to contribute to a GoFundMe account, and who knows an attorney who would be willing to take on WDFW?

Our local salmon opportunities have been recently taken away including fishing Lake Washington and Sammamish....I most likely pay closer attention than your aware of Mr. Steiner! (Olympia has been attacking my fishing rights since Feb,12 1974 Boldt decision) And as far as the big picture goes the wdfw knows they can't eliminate the smb they are just thinning the herd. Salmon on the other hand are actually endangered from over harvesting. And The state sees the smb an escape goat, not tribal gill nets or commercial fishing. I wonder if netting lake wa. study last year had an effect on this?

so when you go down swinging try not to hit yourself......

You might want to pay closer attention to the big picture. There may come a day in the near future, that you won't be allowed to catch your own crab and salmon. Do you really think that they are going to stop taking away the sport fishing opportunities if we don't fight back? This is not just about the attack on the warm water species, this is an attack on your future fishing rights for all species.

If I'm going to lose, I'm going down swinging!

Just checking.

I absolutely would like to get involved and am willing to invest my time. However I am traveling across 5 states weekly in a job that never ends... I cant spearhead it, but I will certainly battle.

What needs to happen is all the right people need to meet centrally face to face and clarify the real issue, all resources at our disposal, and a path to a defined desired outcome.

Invividual responsibilities need to be delegated, taken responsibilty for and executed inside SPECIFIC TIMELINES.

That could be as simple as "gene batey calling BASS asking for support and reporting back by 8/1/16"

Or... Jon sessler organizing 200 boat tournament that is permitted and known to WDFW as a fundraiser for a legal retainer against them! $100 entry. Payout would not be any money other than options, but pride and a cool plaque with that picture of Johny Cash flipping the bird on it. Permit needs filed by july 2016, with promotional flyer by 8/1/2016. 20k in retainer generated.

On and on....with responsibilities and actions that are educational, committee involved, defiant, partnering, obnoxious and professional.

Someone needs to tie it all together and communicate results.

Wdfw does not understand how small the columbia is during the spawn, and is taking the path of least resistance to gain financial resources. Ive talked to them... They dont know bass like we do and they honestly think this law wont make a big impact.

We need to educate them while re-defining the path of least resistance.

Not only is this fight winnable, but we'd be ashamed if we cant at a minimum protect river largemouth that simply dont intersect outbound smolt, and oversized smallmouth who are proven to feed minimally on smolt and proven to not be a limiting factor in recovery.

Legal action should be financially planned for, but a last resort. I dont believe it would be necessary once a lot of time sensitive roles are executed by many different people.

Jake

Well written.

Lets be careful not to advertise the real reason for requesting the permit until one is in hand.  Otherwise we may not be granted one. Should be billed as a event to enhance warm water conservation.

Just a thought.

Jake...I liked the ideas.  I would even pay the big bucks to fish a tournament like that  :-)

Need to make it a multi species tournament to get the walleye guys involved, if possible.

Lake Washington small mouth perch are so delicious. I couldn't even fish for them during the spawn like usual. Something about all the salmon smolts I catch. You would think we would be able to bass fish. I mean that has to help the salmon right? I don't understand the Clinton supporters in our state.

I'm all for a letter writing campaign. I'll draft something up if you gays can proof read it.

I was looking at the comments regarding the decision to lift limits on the Columbia River for smallmouth, walleye, and catfish.  Apparently, part of the decision made by WDFW was decided based on comments left by people.  I don't know exactly how it works, but it's obvious plenty of salmon and west-siders are knowledgeable about the process, because they were ALL OVER wanting to eliminate smallmouth from the river!  In fact, the ONLY PERSON who left any good response in defense of BASS was Nick Berto!!!!!  He is the only person!!!  Shame on me.  Shame on us.  We have absolutely no representation, and no one out there who is keeping anyone informed.  We are an unorganized bunch of dudes who just like to fish.  Obviously, sometimes a pen and comments can made a big difference.  It's not all about money, and we can make a difference.
