Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I've gone down to some of the early season ABA tourneys held out of Scappoose in the past but never actually entered.  I've caught fish in some of side channels down there, but only once with consitancy and that was later in the year.  Just wondering were in general and what type of baits were used with success in those early season tourneys.  Wondering if people were running up into some of the lakes like Sturgeon or Vancouver Lk or if it was smaller side channels, or if the big sacks came from the main channels?  Not asking to give away the farm here, just some basics.

Willamette River Smallmouths from Portland on up.  "early season" means different times to different people; if you mean now you will have to stay between 10 and 35 feet deep; in another few weeks with warmer weather they could move onto the banks and shallow flats.

ciao,

I tried making that run at the last tourney I went too a few years back. The Rose Festival/ Parade was on in Portland that day, so when I got to down town all I saw was police and Coast Guard boats blocking the river -  I didn't want to bug them so I bailed.
