Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I finally got around to trying these at a club tournament yesterday and I really liked them. Even after learning how, fizzing fish still makes me nervous to this day and it seems like the spot can vary based on different sized fish. I liked the concept of the flip clip but never tried them because I didn't see how the fish would neutralize in the shallow depths of a livewell. I thought it would be a temporary solution to keep the fish healthy until weigh in and that they would still need to be fizzed prior to being released. That was not the case on Saturday however. I had two 3 clip sets and attached one clip to the anal fin of the first fish I caught. This sent the back half of the fish to the bottom of the well with it's head still pointed towards the surface. I then added another clip to one of the front pelvic fins to balance the weight distribution. This left the fish perfectly right side up at the bottom of the livewell and it was able to freely swim on its own power. The only other issue I had was not having enough clips to put two on each fish but upon removing them from a fish after a 1/2 to 1 hour of them being attached, the fish was able to swim upright on the bottom of the livewell without them and it seemed like the fish's swim bladder had decompressed on its own. At the end of the day, all my fish were swimming right side up on the bottom of my livewell and swam away as happy as fish caught out of 5' of water in the spring. I have no scientific evidence to prove that I didn't cause any harm to these fish but it sure seemed like this concept worked as advertised which really surprised me. I plan on buying a 3rd set so I can have two clips on 5 fish all at the same time. I really think deep water tournaments have a negative affect on our lakes and if this can make a difference and minimize mortality to be similar to any other tournament, I think these clips are a great idea! Plus, you can make your own as well if you don't want to purchase them. Just a success story I wanted to share in hopes that it will save some fish. So much less risky and invasive than sticking your fish with a needle, even if you are very good at it.

I've wondered about those things. Good to know they seem to work.
Good info! I agree dont like fizzing fish and finding the exact spot seems to vary.

Check this out wouldnt work in a tourny situation but looks like a great way to release a healthy largie. The spot is 12mins 30 seconds in or just watch the whole vid its great
