Any body using them consistantly. I've been debating on getting one, or should I put the money towards a color sonar with down scan? I've got older Eagle grey scale models and a flasher on the boat now - ( There are probably posts on here already about the cameras, but I could not find the "search" option)

If I were you I would get a good depth finder installed, and then borrow someone's underwater camera to help you understand what you're looking at. I have two underwater camera's, and I would be willing to lend you one. Looking at fish all day on the underwater camera can be very addicting, but over time you will get frustrated, because you will wonder why you can't catch them.

I think I bought one probably six years back and used it for about a month.  Its is a useful tool there is no doubt about it, but I think the color graph would do much more for your fishing than the camera.  I actually just sold my aqua vu because I havent used it in years.  If you take the time to learn what your graph is telling you you'd find yourself dropping the camera down with less frequency than it is worth.

I use one a few times a year when I am looking at new water.  I will usually scope an area out with structurescan, and then go back and look at the spots that looked good.   It is an invaluable tool for understanding what is going on on the bottom.  Just don't buy one expecting to go out and find fish and catch them.  They never bite when the cam is in the water.

Best advice:  AquaView is the only one worth getting.  Get the 100 foot cord, not the 50.  You may think you will never need more than 50 feet, but when the boat is drifting, it becomes a 35 foot cord real fast.  Also, first thing to do if you get one is replace the nuts that hold the fin and weight with some really good lock nuts.  The factory ones will loosen over time and you will loose the fin and weight.

I've spent a lot of time with an Aqua View.  You will learn a ton and it will help your fishing.  However, I think investing in your electronics will do more for you in the long run.

Side Imaging and Structure Scan units trump the camera any day of the week! I would spend your money on one of those units before the camera.

Invest in the electronics. I've got an AquaView w/ DVR that I love and have used consistantly. There's no doubt that it will take a backseat when I get my Side Imaging and Sructure Scan hooked up to my HDS. AquaViews are handy for dredging up exspensive overboard rods!

I plan on just getting a budget model, the FISHTV7

It's only $159 does any one have this model?

It's blk/wht but has 100; ft of cord!

I still would save the money and put it in a jar and keep adding to it until you have enough to buy a good sonar unit.  The only time I like to see fish is when they are on the end of my line. I don't think camera use has ever helped me find anything worthwhile, it mostly just demoralizes you when you havent caught a fish all day and the camera shows fish all over where you were just fishing.  The camera is also really slow to use and cover ground, it is best to find something with your sonar then drop the camera over.  This being said you don't need a camera anymore because you can see exactly what is down there with the new units.  Seriously though save your money, you will be able to find a good used SI unit, for cheaper in the next year.

Pat you might have your head up you arse but SI stands for side imaging which is the hummingbird unit, SS is structure scan and that is the lowrance unit.  We are thinking budget here and since the hummingbird was out first and the price is less expensive it would make more sense for him to get the SI (Hummingbird). He should be able to find one of these for a little less dough.

I am an authority because I do know what the units are properly called, please refer to your new BPS oops (Bass Pro Shop) catalog that probably just arrived.
