What do you guys normally charge your backseaters for a two day tournament?

50%?
25%?

Of all costs associated with team tournaments.

Lets hear it guys.

I belive the propper etiquette is to pay for half of all expenses. If you are riding on a long trip, split the truck gas. Split the boat gas, launch fees, ect. If you are meeting them somewhere else, then I don't think you need to split truck gas because you had to spend it on your vehicle anyways. So, basically, from when you meet them to when you leave them, half the cost is the right thing to do. These boats are way too expensive to own and run.
Well my opinion probably doesn't have to much weight. I've only done
one bass tourney(that will change) I do attend several musky tourneys and have
been a backseater,I have always paid 50%. I'm not sure if it was expected but I
found it to be the best way. Even if the boater is up front and able to cast in first,I always feel
they also have alot more work to do,such as boat control, trolling motor, etc.
I also quickly learned that paying half the expenses will get you plenty more invites, which
is an awesome bonus. However,when I'm boating...I don't expect half...but its certainly
appreciated.
Its always been 50/50 split for me. Just was wondering due to having issues with backseaters not paying there fair share. Most of them pay there fair share while others I know will never take again.

I backseat frequently. Sometimes they pay me....sometimes i pay them. It is not a one way street like you might think.
For me, if it is a local tourney, and you meet at the launch, 50/50 for entry fee + options, and $20-$30 for gas, depending on how much was used. (I dont intend on making a profit from the co angler.) Travel tourneys should be 50/50 for tow vehicle, boat, lodging, and any other shared expenses. It is also VERY acceptable to simply ask your potential partner, what they would like you to cover. Also ask about how much gear you should / should not bring. The easiest way to get invited back is to be courteous, here are a few other important questions: is it ok to smoke / chew? is there a place for my lunch?, do you mind if i use a scent spray or gel? hope this is helpful.
Its certainly a good question. I just know that when I'm
backseating...I expect to pay half,I think its a coutesy.

Dang Lloyd,I need to figure out how I can get paid for backseating.
But I suppose I'z gotta get sum bass skillz furst.

Its simple.. .the Golden Rule.... Do unto others.......
Personally, I always want to be invited back and leave the boater with a good impression. My personal reputation is important to me, and the friendship is even more important, so I make sure I err on the side of paying to much. Is a few dollars worth any of the prior.

Always should be at least 50% of all costs that are used by both anglers.

If you're trying to be fair, fill the boat the night before and refill it when the day is done and split that cost. If you both ride in the same rig, fill the rig before you leave, and fill it again at the destination, that will make for a 50/50 split.

My partner last year used to come from Vancouver to Puyallup and we'd head east and I made it a point to cover half the fuel cost period. (5.00/gal diesel) Hell he had the Truck payment and the boat payment, was the least I could do. I made sure and paid for lots of extra meals, beer, etc.

As for a guest, I want my guests to have the best fishing experience of their life on my boat and that doesn't include expenses.

Well, looks like everyone is on the same page. (except Lloyd, but no one ever knows what page he is actually on.) I think you got your answer Russ.
That does clear up some misconceptions we had about you Lloyd.

I believe the misconception is some think he is talking about a boater's backseat.

I think tournament expenses should be shared but as far as taking a friend fishing....I fall more into Ron's camp. I am going to fish as many days in a week as I think I can without ruining my business or my marriage so I don't really care if somone chips in or not. I was going to spend that money anyway and for any of you who have spent a day in a boat with me, I'm not certain who should be paying who.
