Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I am truly frustrated and peeved at BPS. I placed an order on June 1st for baits,a reel and two rods. It is now June 9th and I still have not recieved one of my rods in working condition despite paying for 2 day shipping. First they over charged for shipping. Then one of the rods had a broken front eye. Then they shipped the wrong replacement rod. Next the right replacement rod was sent with a even more severly broken front eye! And they over charged us for that one. So in total I have had to send back 3 different rods and still have not recieved the rod I ordered in working condition. Been on the phone with them like every other day. Spoke with numerous customer service reps and even corporate and still not satisfied. Corporate wants to send us a gift card to keep my business. Probably a $20 gift card. Never have I had this much trouble ordering anything online. I think I would have had better customer service and product care if I woulda ordered from ebay or craigslist. I'm serious. I'm done with BPS. I have been a long time and loyal customer since I could remember but I think TW will get my online business from now on. I know they probably don't care about lossing my business cuz I am just one customer but it is the principal for me. Sorry for the rant and this is more of a blog but I needed to vent.

I had the same problem with a heavy salmon rod, only 2 or 3 of the guides were either bent or broken, returned it, 2nd one came in about a week with broken guides, returned it, 3rd one came with one badly bent guide, canceled charge on CCard, told BPS I was thru with shopping with them, kept rod (which they agreed to) fixed guide, and ordered basically same thing from Cabela's, came in 2 days, perfect condition, since then have ordered all my things from Cabela's unless price is about the same locally, been very happy and they will continue to get my mail order business.  (Have always wondered if BPS merchandise always got to me  broken or defective, what would a boat and motor combo from them be like, LOL)  BTW none of the round tubes showed any kind of damage or mishandling.  Also should add, have had excellent service and selection on my many trips a year to Moses Lake, and Potholes and vicinity from MAR-DON'S.

prices a little higher but never been steered wrong with tackle or info (I'm a bank fisherman and Mike has always put me in the right sp[ots whether they were off his dock or anyplace along the reservoir or lower lakes.)

Jon yeah none of my tubes showed any signs of damage or mishandling. In fact the original shipment had two rods in one tube. One had a 7'3" rod and the broken one was the 7'0 rod. You would think that if it was the shipping company mishandling the tubes the longer rod would take the brunt of the damage. Yeah I think the ppl at their warehouse are the problem when they package the rods. You would think a company like BPS, who deals in fishing gear i.e. rods, would know how to safely handle them. I can see getting one broken rod. Okay crap happens but when you get several consecutive broken rods the quality control is the problem.
I absolutely agree.  Sometimes I think some of these outfits get too big and loose track of their customer base.  I always like to read their catalogs but I ordered a coupleabout 6 weeks ago now and haven't seen one yet.  On the other hand Cabela's has sent me all that I ordered within 2 weeks.  (Not pushing Cabela's here, am having problems with their credit dept. but the merchandising end seems to be very careful and prompt)
I dont understand why someone would even use BPS or Cabelas online when places like TW, BTD, HUT, FW, OPS, etc etc... have free shipping with you buy 50 dolla worth of stuff. They even all match price, no tax, yadda yadda. Unless the stuff being bought is the store brand, you get jacked on shipping. Can someone explain that

Daniel,

Call me dumb but I have no idea what those initials stand for.  Do they have catalogs, are they mail order?  I live in a small town retired, disabled, on a very, very limited income so yes I buy the least expensive house brand I can find with the exception of when I go to Moses Lake, Potholes, or that area then I will stop at MAR-DON'S and buy a few small things just to support them.  (used to work there when it first opened back in the 60's)

@ Jeff I have ordered from TW in the past and was impressed. I only ordered from BPS cuz the wife saw a sale there and was making it a father's day gift. I had never had a problem with BPS before and thought nothing of it. I know better now. BTW I saw they are sending me a $25 gift card for all of my troubles. Pfft like $25 will keep me as a customer.

Here ya go. This is only a few of them out there that has free shipping and no tax unless its a WA based site.

Good thing about all these is if you order on a minday you will get it on wednesday. And BTD sells my lures, hehe

Daniel,

Thank you very much, feel like an idiot, am 64 and been fishing since I could barely hold a pole and had never heard of these shops.  and to continue with my showing of dumbness, what kind of lures do you make and sell and do you sell them yourself or strictly thru BTD?  also do you have any pictures of them anyplace, or could you send them to me @ charger66fan@yahoo.com

Thanks

Sorry to hear about your struggles, especially with the rods. I have had a few rods shipped to me that showed up broken, i think it happens regardless of where you order them but the way the company handles it is what makes the difference... Any online ordering I do is from TW or BTD, both price match, free shipping (over $50), and quick!

Online ordering is not your only option either. Most of the local tackle shops can order just about anything you ever needed or more and have it in quickly (in most cases 2 days) and ship to you also with most price matching as well. Try to support the local shops!

THREE RIVERS MARINE Talk to Kent, he can order what you need!

Buy local and you will not have any problem.  You will also be supporting your local business.

Tackle Warehouse gets all my business.  I'm in East Wenatchee.   I used to buy at Hooked on Toys, but they changed their hours so now I can only make it there on the weekends, when I should be fishing!  Not to mention their markup on all the gear.  I can get a better selection at TW, free shipping or $5 2 day shipping at TW, and usually some free swag from TW with every order.  It's a no brainer for me.

The only time I ever place an order with Cabelas or BPS is when I cannot get the item, or a comparable item at another retailer.  I do enjoy checking out their catalogs though.
